I am a transfer student from Kennesaw State University, where I completed my B.S. in Communication with a minor in Professional Writing. I now commute to Georgia State University from my hometown of Senoia, Ga. Between my time at KSU and GSU I took almost a year off so I could get some real world experience within the medical field and I also got a job as a newspaper string writer. I managed to balance these two aspects of my interest pretty well, but I knew neither would result in a full career.
As I struggled with this dilemma of what I should do for the largest part of my life I got the news that Von Rogers, a dear friend of mine and many from Young Harris College, had passed away from cancer. This shock coupled with sympathy for the family brought back nostalgic feelings of the small campus life and how I loved working with students and teachers. That is when I realized that I wanted to go back to college to teach and hopefully be as good a mentor as my friend was to me.
That is when a friend told me about GSU and the different types of classes that are provided. So, in January of 2014, I signed up and have been loving my experience here ever since. I plan on going on to graduate school in the coming fall to get my Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Advance Composition with a focus on the modern use of rhetoric in feminism and hopefully get a minor in Literary Studies focusing on the Romantic Period. Honestly, I would not have even imagined in 2013 that I would be graduating with a B.A. and, hopefully, going off to do graduate study in the humanities! This change of course has been inspiring and it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for my time here at GSU.
Thank you and Cheers!
