E aí! First Free Day in Salvador

Hey everyone! Today was our first free day in Salvador and I had a great time! The day started off with a trip to Casa das Histórias de Salvador. This is a museum em o centro. This museum was very intriguing because of how interactive it was. This museum shares so many parts of Salvador through different ways. You start by going through a stair case that is lined with tiles, do they look familiar? The staircase itself is an exhibit that plays audios of what the street used to sound like- when it was all a street market. The first floor has exhibits that are scale models of different important parts of the city, such as Basílica Conceiçã da praia and the elevador Lacerda. The next exhibit was another scale model, this time it was one of the city. My host mom pointed out something to me that I otherwise would have missed, the Dique de Tororó. My favorite part of this museum is that it is very interactive. they encouraged all of us to feel the models they made. The next exhibit was a light room, where the walls and floors are covered in pictures of nature. They encouraged us to touch the walls, even lay down and connect with the nature. The last floor had multiple exhibits, one with portraits and headphones of important people in the community. Not just the famous ones, but the people who are truly connected to the city. This museum is unique because they want you to understand their culture and connect to it in a special way. The next stop was the Mercado Modelo, which my host mom explained was where the slaves were lived when they were first brought over. There were lots of stores selling everything from candies and spices to clothing and instruments. Today was a very joyful day and an incredible way to connect more to the city. I cannot wait for what else we get to experience while we are here.
