Oi! Meeting Host Moms and Learning About Candomblé Religion

Hi everyone!

Today is July 4th, our first full day in Salvador! We woke up bright and early to have a quick breakfast and get started on our Afro-Brazilian dance class with Cozido. We had so much fun moving our bodies to the music and becoming closer as a group. It was a great start to a busy day ahead! We all were a mixed of emotions as we waited to meet our host mothers-excited, nervous, anxious. The wait was well worth it, we were welcomed with hugs, kisses and lots of love! They were so excited for our arrival and we got to have a nice lunch together at the Wish Hotel. Next, we took a quick tour of our new homes for the next two weeks and then headed to our first lecture. Professor Willys Santos enlighted us on the history of Candomblé religion and its connection to Brazil. We finished just in time to see a beautiful sunset over Baia de Todos os Santos, the pictures do not do it justice. Megan and I ended the night with our Mãe eating homemade chocolate cake and chitchatting. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store. Boa noite e bone sonhos!
