Project 1: Form Follows Function

This project required me to design a protective container to cushion an egg from breaking when dropped from an 8-foot wall onto the sidewalk. Besides being functional, it was also expected to be aesthetically appealing. I used approximately 700 toothpicks and a glue gun to create interlocking, springing fan shapes, anchored to an interior triangular pyramid structure that housed the egg. My inspiration for the design came from Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests.

Result: the egg was unbroken!
