In this article Scholl and Gulwadi claim that a nature based College campus environment is the best environment for students to learn and be productive in. Due to higher enrollment rates, Universities want to create and have the best environments for students to be in. The twenty first century generation, however, is much more demanding and have higher expectations than ever; mainly due to new technologies and social patterns.
Scholl and Gulwadi believe college campuses should be productive learning environments for students not only inside the classroom, but outside as well. New technology inside the classrooms, nature and open spaces outside. This gives students a nice balance of technology and nature, and also provides them with a substantial learning environment. Scholl and Gulwadi stress the importance of a well established outside environment for college students because it gives students a sense of belonging having that space.
Students can have very short attention spans, especially in this generation of technology where they can be easily distracted. Because of this, students tend to do poorly in classes. Scholl and Gulwadi strongly believe that having an open space with nature surrounding the campus can really make students more productive and less distracted.
