Reflection #9

Discussion Questions for Reading

In his review of The Curious Incident, Jay McInerney suggests that at the novel’s end “the gulf between Christopher and his parents, between Christopher and the rest of us, remains immense and mysterious. And that gulf is ultimately the source of this novel’s haunting impact. Christopher Boone is an unsolved mystery”*

* What do you think we have learned about Christopher during the novel? Do you agree that he is still a mystery?

  • I have learned that Christopher doesn’t allow his condition to stop him from doing what he wants to do. He is strong.

* What have we learned about human beings in general?

  • We have learned that no matter the condition you’re living in we all go through the same things. We are equal. That we can get through the storm.

*  Do you think empathy has allowed you as a reader to better understand Christopher?

  • Yes, most definitely. Haddon’s utilization of giving his character autism has allowed me as a reader to see the world in a different perspective. This makes it easier for me to truly understand Christopher and why he thinks and does things the way he does them.
