Personal reflections

cel15_sm

I think the most important thing to understand about art is, how art makes you feel personally because I believe that art can sometimes change your meaning about life by just looking at artwork and understanding it, but at the same time, there are people how don’t even take time to see art so they will never know how it makes them feel. Blog #10 about personal heritage will stick with me even when I exit this class because it made me realize that heritage means a lot to me but I never thought about it before blog assignment. I would like to keep my personal heritages and even start new heritages for next generations. I did not really care for 1600, art for some reason it was just not appealing to me. I did understand it at some levels but I think I did not learn it 100%.my favorite artist, we learned about was Jeff Koon’s. I love his artwork. From my perspective, his best artwork is the balloon flower. His artwork is just so positive and exciting. After learning about Jeff Koon’s I would love to see his artwork in real life. My best advice for the future students is to keep up with the deadlines and don’t let yourself stay behind in the course work.

Personal Cultural Heritage

Personal introduction- I am from Pakistan. I moved to America 7 years ago with my family since I was in elementary school, I only remembered a glimpse of  Pakistan by learning about my heritage I learned a lot about myself.

Title: Wazir Khan Mosque

Artist: Wazir Khan

Year: 1634

Friday is the Muslims holy day in Pakistani everything is closed that day.this is the reason my mother makes everyone take a day off every Friday for prayers. This is one of the famous mosques in Pakistan it is decorated with most amazing art. My mother used to go to this mosque every Friday with her family before she got married. She had the best memories in this mosque and that’s why she wanted me and my siblings to go to mosque every holiday and after prayer, we go to family and friends house for gathering we pray, eat, talk, and play games. I did not notice this as my personal heritage after my mother told me about her past and because of that I like this day even more and I would like my kids to follow this heritage. Wazir khan mosque has the most beautiful structure and the art made inside of the mosque are breathtaking this image on the inside of the mosque. I did learn that Muslims art does not contain any animals or human. We believe the creation of living forms is unique to god. Muslim art is decorative vocabulary by knowing that this mosque is only decorated with vocabulary this just amazes me. With every word design and the colors, it inspires me more about my culture and where I came from.

This personal heritage has been passed down for 3 generations. It is my grandmother dress. The painting shows how my grandmother dress looks like. my grandmother gave this dress to my anti before she got married as a wedding gift and after sometimes my anti gave this dress to my mother when she got married and know my mother gave this dress to my older sister for her wedding gift and know my sister will pass this down to me and for sure I would like to give to next generation for memories and history. This dress tells me where my grandmother was from because in Pakistan every part/state has their own culture with different language, food, and dress. My grandmother born in Baluchistan- Pakistan and then she moved to Punjab-Pakistan and this artwork expresses how Baluchistan women look and dress. After Learning about my grandmother past, I feel the need to know more about my family history because you never know I might be mixed with all of the Pakistani culture genes and maybe even India.

Title: the Newborn

Artist: Georges de la tour

Year: 1640

http://www.joyfulheart.com/christmas/christmas_artwork.htm

Another heritage I have found out is about the newborn baby. Every time there is a new baby born in over family we let a person come from the mosque and announce some holy word in the baby ear to let the baby know that he or she is born as a Muslim. These are some of the words that the person say to the newborn baby” God is Great, I bear witness that there is no god except the One God.” we do know that baby will not understand and will never remember this but it is for protection of child so the baby is safe because god will always be with him. This painting is a Christian artwork and I see the glimpse of my heritage in this because they are reading something to the baby for his protection this might be something we as Muslims and Christian share. I would do this too by kids because I believe it brings out the spiritual side of that child and protects the baby from evil.

High Museum of Art visit

I went to visit the high museum of art in Atlanta. the last time I visited museums, I will in 6th grade. the museum was really crowded but  that might be because of Friday.  It  was definitely more fun that I imagined.  I did get the chance to engage in three activities and view astonishing and stimulating art.

1)photo booth

img_5754

When I first walked into the museum they placed a photo booth for everyone just has fun memories. The theme was all American flag colors because of the Election Day being so close.

2)ballet couple dance

img_5751

When I went outside there was a dance practice going on because the ballet dancer had a show at night, unfortunately, I did not get the chance to see their actual performance. by just viewing their practice I knew it was going to be a glamorous show.

3)screen printing

img_5752img_5753

My favorite active was screen printing a bag. I always wanted to do fabric printing. they first gave me a fabric bag and they asked me if I lived inside 285 or outside, based on that  I when to one of the lines. to screen paint, I had to place my bag underneath the board and then put screen printing ink on the board and the last step was to shove hard and move your hand slowly  to get the logo on the bag.it was fast and easy to make. I had a lot of fun creating it.

img_5757

there was amazing artwork in  the museum but this artwork got my attention quick. I just love how it is made with all these drawers and every single drawer as a different shape, colors, and e size. this artwork remedies me of  life experiences  because they are all unorganized and some are big and other are small but all together they making up one  shape. this shape looks a lot of  alike heart maybe because over experience make over heart choices. I think this  artwork is just magnificent. overall I had a good experience and  learned a lot more about art.

I Haz Meme?/ Joseph Bueys

meme

I believe a meme can be art but it is not be valued as other art, for example, a meme can not be placed in an art museum . I think the value of  art comes in when an artist put his passion, hard work, and time into the artwork. creating a  meme does not take time or hard work. all you need is an idea and an idea can definitely be called as art especially when the art is being shared with others people as Joseph Beuys said . I think of a meme as political cartoons because  they both share their idea by being creative. the internet does play a big role in making meme because I have only seen meme art on the internet. internets have made human  more creative and has made everyone a good thinker because if we never had  the internet we would have never seen a meme, that indicates we will never be able to speak up for over believes or share ideas with others.overall I think meme are great they make everyone  laugh and it  makes as view this world as a broader places. I am not  a fan of the memes but I can  enjoy a funny meme once a while, the topics I can relate to are student life, gender, and politics . I do not like the meme that is racist or over the top jokes.

Personal Truisms/Jenny Holzier

img_7449

I erudite that Jenny Holzer truisms are remarkable and engaging. I do agree with some of her truisms. by reading her truisms tells me that she experienced a lot of ups and downs in her life that made her think about what life is as to offer and she wanted to share her thoughts and knowledge. the one that reached out to me was “expressing anger is necessary” I don’t think not many people would agree with it but personally I think that truism is t true because there will be something in your life that will make you angry and you can not just hold it in. angry can teach you a lot about yourself and it can give you the confidence to stand up for what you believe in.
I came up with my truism when I read Jenny Holzer truism “ fear is the greatest Incapacitator ” it made me think how every time we get afraid of something we try to forget about or run away from the fear. instead of never looking back we all should face over fear because it can make you stronger than before and life is short so we can not let fear make choices for as. this truism is important to me because when I went through depression instead of facing my problem I try to runaways from it, but that just made me fragile form inside because there was always something holding me back from doing what I loved so by  admitting my depression and treating it made me a stronger and a better person.

Working Title/Artist: Lady at the Tea TableDepartment: Am. Paintings / SculptureCulture/Period/Location: HB/TOA Date Code: Working Date: 1883-85 Digital Photo File Name: DT516.tif Online Publications Edited By Michelle Ma for TOAH 08/24/15

The content of this art is to interest in observing and capturing the day to day social and work life around as. Mary Cassatt American artist created this work of art. She created lady at the table to say thank you for elegant Japanese tea set. This art was created in 1885.  The lady at the tea table is Mrs. Moore’s portrait as a gift the blue and white with little gold was to show the standard of the family. Lady at the tea table can be analyzed with feminist analysis and biographical analysis.

Feminist analysis: when I absorbed that portrait tell me how people viewed women in 1800s. Women were known as to keep up with the standard, beauty, friends, and family, that’s the reason Mrs. Moore’s sit with her back straight, holds the tea perfectly and drinks tea from an expensive tea set.

Biographical analysis: by reading about Cassatt I noticed that she is known as making day to day social and work life and in “the lady at the tea table” Cassatt captured Mrs. Moore’s social life, she looks sad and lonely this tells me that she was going through something, her friends are not with her and it does not seem right because tea is described as assemble. Cassatt knew how to capture everything because maybe she went through the same thing as Mrs. Moore’s.

Overall, I loved this blog assignment this was the most fun assignment we had. The best part was remaking the art because it made me feel like an artist. To remake I used photography modeled myself, put a lot more sunlight than the original art and I had to make a fake table for my art. This assignment did take more time than others but it was the best one.

House on Fire/ Portrait of Personal Items

:img_7415

  • Camera- I  selected camera because it helps create memories and memories are a big part of a human life. Camera means history; every day babies are born, people are getting married, and all of the moments are documented with cameras, a source to help us remember our past. I want people to know that taking pictures is one of my hobbies. The camera is part of me. I wish I can capture every moment.

  • Photo album- I choose my photo album because it has all my good and bad memories from my childhood to Intel present. This album is life to me because without  saving my captured memory. How will I ever look at my baby pictures to remind myself, how my life was when I was young. I would like people to know that Memories are a big deal for me because it does not just show the past, it shows the future/dreams.

  • Personal diary-diary is paramount to me. I record all my thought and feeling. Diary is a teacher and therapy to me. This diary is highly valued for to me because it can never be substituted. It helps me develop myself because I don’t just write down my feeling I put why do I feel the way that I feel so I can stay away from something that makes me feel bad. I want people to know that when I went through depression, this diary was my best friend.

  • iPhone- the cell phone is not even an argument because no matter what my phone is always in my hand. Phone means connecting and staying up to date, for example, I will need to call 911 for emergency services. When there is an emergency, the first thing I will do is contact my family. Cell phones always provide me with a sense of security.

  • Car keys- car key might not seem significant at that time, but it will turn out very useful few minutes after the fire. A Car key means saving myself from fire and my valuables that I  have saved so far. I would like everyone to know that every time something bad happens I like to run away far as possible from that situation and that’s the reason getting my car key is important to me because I will do the same if my house was on fire.

  • MacBook- after losing a whole house , you need important things to be saved like important documents that can be hard to replace that I always keep a copy on my laptop. Laptop means a big file drawer that can be impossible to save when the house is no fire. People like me will think this as money too because you can sell it at any time in the need of extra money.

A “Thousand” Words

Title: An old women (“The Ugly Duchess “ )

Artist: Quentin Matsys

Year: Around 1513

https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/quinten-massys-an-old-woman-the-ugly-duchess

this is a formal analysis on Quentin Matsys piece titled the ugly duchess shows an unappealing old woman with wrinkled skin and withered breasts. The painting is made from oil paint and it is on an oak wood panel, measurements of 62.4 by 45.5 cm. She wears the horned headdress, her clothes are old fashion according to the time of the painting was created, and she holds a red bud rose, this artwork gives a symbol of engagement. Specify that she is trying to attract a man. The budding flower she holds indicates her love life that will never grow just like the broken budding flower.

I am going to be doing contextual analysis  on the ugly duchess The panting of an Old Woman maybe an image of Margarete Maultasch. She was known as the ugliest woman in history. She lived about 150 years before Quentin Matsys so he would have to use his imagination or surviving records to make the painting. Recently a professor of medical humanities at University College London, and his student Christopher Cook researched the ugly duchess painting and said that the women in painting have a Paget’s bone disease. It is a chronic condition by the enlargement and distortion of bone. In Paget’s disease, makes abnormal fracture of bones. The National Gallery in London, which has this painting, accepted their research. this is an Feminist analysis on , A Grotesque Old Woman portrait painted by male artist Quentin Matsys. It gives the viewer a nasty feeling about the matsys the artist, like he disrespected females by making a really unattractive version of women. showing  all women cleavage can mean a lot of different means like women don’t respect their own self or that all women’s want man’s attention even if there old or unattractive.

I believe this artwork is about god creations. when I first looked at this artwork it made me think about god how he creates all a different kinds of humans and animals but some are so appealing to human eyes and some are very disturbing that we can’t even look at them for 10 seconds. The artist is trying to show the viewer what he discovered maybe the image came in his dream. I did not like the work when I first chose it because the old women in the painting scared me I never even   imagined women like that before because from what I saw and heard, the  women is always fetching.

The women in the artwork might be hideous but the painting itself is very engrossing because of the punctilious. If this painting didn’t mean anything why would the artist spend his time on meaningless art? This art can give you a different perspective of the world, that you can’t change every single thing in your life there will always be something that cannot be changed and you have to learn to leave with it. We as human want to change anything that we do not like for example car, house or even relationship. The women in the art are sharing her feeling about her life, she want to be pretty like other women so the try to dress attractively by wearing a fancy headdress but she is still miserable because even with everything she can do there is her bones structures that will be impossible to change. My opinion has been changed in the process of learning about this art because this artwork is not just grotesque it can teach every person something and I love the details and realism the artist uses it can make you imagine how the women will be in real life.

village life (representational abstract and non-objective)

The representational artwork represents actual objects from real life. Abstraction takes an object from real life but put them in a different way from the reality, or Sometimes artists view the subjects in a non-realist way that can make Abstract artwork. The third type of art mostly looks like Abstract art, but it has no reality. Non-objective art is made only for artist reasons.

Art In My Environment

img_0507

this sculpture from a park is trying to tell as history. I relate to this because I remember my grandmother use to tell me stories about how in her village people use to get water from a fountain like that in sculpture.I guess that’s the reason this looks more interesting to me. when I first looked at this work I wondered why this is all gold and black?  and why didn’t the artist didn’t use other colors?  that might be a season because the artist wanted to show the history in his work so he or her used colors like black brown or gold  because it makes the viewer think about old and antique things .I think  the artist tries to express feelings about the dream or some old memories. I believe the artist is trying to tell the viewers something that we do not know like how hard it was for people to get water. they will have to go to the water fountain pull up the water put it in big  water bowls and take that heavy bowl home. the artist is using implied line to get the viewer attention to look at the water bowl. he or she uses unity to create a sense of harmony and wholeness by using similar elements within the composition and placing them in a way that brings them all together.

img_0487

this art shows a lot of meaning I relate to it because it reminds me of someone brain from inside and in that brain, the person thoughts  are going all over the place but at the same time, they are organized. when I first looked at this art I  felt like it’s a dream that you get sometimes but you can’t really understand it and you don’t even know why a dream like that came to you. I think this art is a religious story. I believe that artist is trying to tell the viewer about the dream or the story that maybe happened to him or her. the first time I looked my eyes went straight to the long green tower that might be the town where the story took place  and I notice that artist uses the Arabic language to maybe give the clues about the story. the  artist does  use organic shapes to make the work look natural and uses variety to make art look more interesting. the artist uses white color to  get over focus so we can notice an important message about the art in that white letter.
