Media Research Sources

All sites listed in this document have media on them that is free to use in not for profit projects (such as class assignments).  Available clips are Public Domain, licensed under a Creative Commons license, or offered by the site Royalty Free.  Keep in mind that not all work that is offered for use Royalty Free is freely accessible.

Things to keep in mind

WARNINGS – Sites may contain media that is not free to use.  Check ALL media you want to use individually.

  • Watermarks – AVOID – it is a sign the media is not free to use; it also doesn’t look good in your project.

CITATIONS – Many sites have media that requires citations for usage (possibly referred to as attribution).  Best practice, especially for class or academic works, is to CITE EVERYTHING.

  • Citations can be listed at the end of a work (i.e. credits) or where a work is posted (i.e. on the website, YouTube description field, etc.)
