The Audio Interview Project

Learning to conduct interviews (creating good questions and finding suitable subjects) is a great way to get students thinking about the different perspectives and structured interactions where one person gains information from another. You may already have an assignment involving students interviewing experts, other students, or locals on varying topics; but including better technology and sharing techniques for recording with students gives them the opportunity to develop skills they can use in the future.

From doing interviews using audio equipment students can:

  • Work on the ability to form constructive questions.
  • Select interview subjects that fit the purpose of the production or research.
  • Learn to capture clear audio.
  • Take the interview, edit it, and mix it with multiple audio clips to create a story or thesis statement.

Students have easy access to:

  • Audio Recorders: provided by the Catlab, students will be able to capture clean, clear audio.
  • Garageband: A simple audio editing tool available on Mac computers.
  • Audacity: A simple, free, multi-platform audio editing software. Students who have PCs and want to work from home will be able to use this.

On the iPad:

If you are thinking about checking out iPads for your class from CETLOE this is a project that can be done using the iPad. Featuring a camera, mic, and access to Garageband; students can create projects with a greater deal of flexibility.
