Project VI was working with different mediums like conte crayons and ink with a crowquill pen, and using the ink in an ink wash. We started off using the ink to get familiar with it. We learned how to properly use the crowquill and learned three techniques called hatching, cross hatching, and stipples. After practicing these techniques we moved on to drawing using these methods. For my drawings I used a gourds as my prop to draw. The first drawing I just used the crowquilll with ink to draw the gourd. My second drawing was to do an ink wash of the gourd. This is done by getting a paint tray and putting water into all of the holders except for one. Then in the empty holder you put you ink in there. After that you dip your brush into the ink them dip the brush into all of the water like you are washing it off to get different ink values. The last drawing was to uses both of the methods together with ink and ink wash and I used the hatching and stippling techniques as well. The next medium we learned to work with was conte crayons. The colors we used were sanguine, white, and black. Our first time working with them was to draw a skull. I liked working with conte but it was also different from what we had been working on because with conte it looks good when your loose with it. We also worked with different colored paper which I enjoyed doing. The skull was fun but tricky to do, and when working with conte it is best to use the white at the very end so it doesn’t smear with the black and become grey. Then our last drawing we did was a self portrait using conte. This one was difficult for me because I’m not the biggest fan drawing faces let alone my face. It was my first self portrait I’ve done. I think when I relaxed that I was drawing face and was loose with it it looked better. It was interesting learning about drawing faces like all eyes are in the center of peoples heads. I did get stuck on drawing my eyes because I would first make them too big or not in the right place. I am decently happy with the way it turned out.
