Destroy A Book

When hearing about this project I was pretty excited about it and the freedom to create really whatever we wanted to. I struggled to find a book that was a decent size and the story was something I could work with. I landed on this book because it was one that I had laying around and I liked the thickness of it and on the inside it had so many wonderful illustrations. I knew that the book was a story about these kids that get drawn into a magical forrest so I just knew that was something I could play off of. The last time I read this book was when I was little and my dad read it to me that is another reason why I wanted to keep the shape of the book and wanted it to still look like a book when laying around. When looking over past projects and different artist that alter books it defiantly inspired me to cut into the book. I first started out by going page by page and cutting out every illustration out with my Exacto knife. I knew I wasn’t going to use every image I cut out but didn’t want them to go to waste after cutting each page in the book. After cutting each illustration out I started the process of cutting page by page. I first marked a little over where half way was in the book so i knew when to stop. I found that it was easiest to cut three pages at a time. When I was done with that I picked out what images I wanted to use and then laid them out and hot glued them into place. For the birds at the top and missing signs at the bottom I used sewing pins to give the hanging effect. My idea for the book was to be the kids going into the magical forest. I used the first page of the book almost as doors opening into the book.
