SUMMARY OF CONTENT
Treatment of depression in older adults can be challenging as they often have multiple comorbidities and may have a stigma about mental illness. However, there are a range of different treatments that can be used to treat depression.
This module includes an overview about different types of treatment for depression in older adults, evidence-based programs for older adults with depression and information from an expert in treatment of depression of older adults.

EXPERT INTERVIEW
Guest Speaker Biography:
Ms. Eve H. Byrd, MSN, MPH, APRN-BC is the Executive Director of the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression/ Emory University. She graduated from the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University where she earned her Bachelors in Nursing and her Masters in Psychosocial Nursing. She also earned a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a licensed Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist. She is an adjunct faculty member at Emory’s School of Nursing.
Ms. Byrd is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry and serves on the annual meeting program and practice communities. She is also on the Board of Directors for Mental Health America of Georgia and Community Friendship, Inc., a psychosocial rehabilitation program in Atlanta. She has been a consultant to the Atlanta Regional Commission/Atlanta Area Agency on Aging, Georgia Division of Aging, the Georgia Alzheimer’s Association and a member of the Georgia Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia’s State Plan Task Force. She is on faculty with the Carter Center’s Mental Health Program/Liberia Project.
