Interviewee 1

● In terms of emotional response, the interviewee seemed positive! They
were clearly engaged with the questions and interested in offering
feedback on the prototype.
● The interviewee seemed to value connectedness, and expressed an
interest in music with interesting bass voicing.
● The user is seeking to interact with music as a listener as a way of
mentally collecting themselves.
● Currently the interviewee finds new music via the recommendation of
friends.
● The deficiencies of the current solution include the limitations of not
being able to find music on demand, and being at the mercy of their
peers’ recommendations
● The interviewee recommended the inclusion of links to artists’ other
social media profiles on artist pages in-app.

Interviewee 2

● The interviewee was emotionally calm and collected, but very
engaged with the questions, and expressed a deep love and
passion for music when asked about their relationship to it.
● They seemed to really value music as an outlet for themselves,
whether it be listening, playing, or writing it.
● The user is seeking to interact with music frequently and to
discover new songs and artists, as well as to make music
themselves.
● They currently use Apple Music to get connected with new music.
● The deficiencies of the current solution include the lack of ability
to really connect with artists, or the barrier to entry to get on the
app as an artist to make music.
● The interviewee had questions regarding whether the app was
usable as a streaming service in its own right.

● The interviewee seemed emotionally conflicted when asked about
their relationship to music on the whole. They described their relationship with their craft, composing, as “love/hate,” touching on the stressful and overwhelming nature of composing a work, and the reward that comes with releasing the finished product.
● They seemed to really value music and making music, as they have chosen to pursue education in composition.
● The user is seeking to connect with music and potentially have a less stressful experience composing and an easier experience sharing their finished work.
● They currently discover new music through television and radio most regularly.
● The deficiencies of the current solution include the lack of ability to have personal agency over the music they come across.
● The interviewee suggested focusing the artist profiles to be more honed-in on a particular artist, with an additional menu featuring similar artists.

Interviewee 4 + 5

● The interviewees seemd emotionally invested and very eager to
offer opinions and suggest tweaks to the interface, and both are deeply ingrained in music on the day-to-day as musicians. They both offered deep and genuine takes on their feelings about the industry and what it’s like to be an artist.
● They seemed to really value music, and one of the interviewees outright defined themself as an artist, so it means a lot as an expressive tool for them.
● The interviewees are seeking to get further connected to music and branching out, as they each listened to a broad and rich variety of music.
● The interviewees currently try to attend local artist events as a primary means of discovering music, and utilize Spotify’s discover feature as well.
● The deficiencies of the current solution include the time investment of physical shows, as well as the Spotify algorithm getting stale quickly and repeating suggestions.
● The interviewees suggested increasing the size on the playback buttons for easier usability, and potentially condensing some song list menus to a pop-up bar to avoid screen clutte
