Eugene M. Martin was an Atlanta native who worked for the Atlanta Life Insurance Company for 57 years. He began his career with the company as an agent shortly after his graduation from Atlanta University in 1912. He served many roles within the company, including auditor, claim adjuster, and manager. In 1920 he was elected to the position of company secretary and in 1947 he became the company’s first vice president. He held the position of vice president until his death in 1969. Outside of Atlanta Life, Martin served as president of the National Insurance Association and the National Alumni Association of Atlanta University, as well as becoming the vice president and board of directors of the NAACP.
