Graded Formative and Summative Assessments
The Number and Algebra IB Exam is an exam that was given to first-year International Baccalaureate students assessing their knowledge of Topic 1. This exam is comprised of questions from the IB Question Bank and helps to prepare students for the end-of-course assessments known as “External Exam 1” and “External Exam 2.” All IB questions are open-ended and the components of each question build upon one another. Each assessment is designed to mimic what students will experience on exam day at the conclusion of the two-year course.
The following student samples are from my PreCalculus class. The unit is the introduction to Trigonometric Functions. We begin with Angles of Rotation that build the foundation for the unit in terms of the introduction of new mathematical terminology, a revision of the coordinate plane, reference angles, angles in standard position, and the like. The student samples are from a formative assessment analyzing students’ understanding of these foundational concepts.
