Positive and Negative Space

Project #2 Positive and Negative Space

Date: October 2024

Materials: Pencils and Micron Pens

Statement: This positive and negative space project defines refining shapes into silhouettes. Every shape is arranged into a composition and to maintain control of the focal point.

Reflection and Analysis:

1. What 3 shapes did you choose for your project and why? (Be specific) The 3 shapes I chose were a Car, Glasses, and Keys. I chose the car for commuting to school, since I drive. The glasses for everyday use, and the keys since their a necessity for everything.

2. What shape interactions did you use in your composition? (Need at least 3) The shapes interactions I used were overlapping shapes, since majority of the shapes overlap each other. I filled in solid black in the background to make the shapes stand out more, and I changed many sizes of the shapes.

3. What was the intended focal point of your design and why? The intended focal point would have to be the shapes merging together in the center, where majority of the shapes overlap over the car. I think it has a strong focal point area where the shapes show positive and negative space.

4. What would you change about your finished composition? What I would have changed about my composition would be, making the shapes a bit bigger. Extending them further out into the borders and corners.

5. What do you think is the most successful part of your finished composition? I think the most successful part of my composition was keeping it neat, clean, and free of smudging.
