Tu Corazón Es Mio

Translation: Your Heart Is Mine

Project #7 (Tu Corazón Es Mio) Final Project

Date: December 2024

Materials: Golden Acrylic Paints and Color Wheel

Statement: This final project was based on a song and the lyrics that go with my composition. I created a clear direct project where it expresses the feeling of peace and love. Taking inspiration of the singer, Kali Uchis.

Reflection and Analysis:

1. What is your project title? The title of my project is “Tu Corazón Es Mio.” In English it translates “Your Heart Is Mine.”

2. Identify the text you are basing your project on (include the author, source, date, title, etc.). The song that I based my project on is Diosa, by Kali Uchis. It was introduced in the same music video along with her other song Tu Corazón Es Mio. The lyrics I chose from “Diosa” were, “dandole ofrendas a su Diosa every day.” It translates to “giving offerings to his goddess every day.” Both songs were released in January of 2024.

3. How did you translate your idea into visual elements? What imagery did you use and why? I designed and painted a direct result of her songs, using an ocean with a beach, along with some orchids. I painted Kali Uchis, herself and along with her beautiful pregnancy stomach, her partners hand coming in from the side of the canvas (Don Toliver), with a heart, signifying he is giving his heart/love to her. I designed my painting like this since it was a direct approach I wanted to take, including about everything important about each song from her album “Orquídeas.”

4. What colors did you choose to use and why? I originally chose my colors as Red, Orange, Yellow, Yellow Green, Blue Violet, and Red Violet. Also including some of their tints, tones, and shades. I chose these colors since they were the colors that matched up with the design idea I had in mind. Eventually, I added more colors and skin tones of different tints, tones, and shades.

5. What things are unifying the composition? What is helping to tie it together/keeping it from getting too jumbled or chaotic? What keeps my composition unified are the vibrant colors that make the image pop, it gives it a settling feeling, a feeling of peace. Where each object is placed it gives it a perfect aspect of how it could look in reality.

6. What is adding variety to your composition? What is helping to break up the unity, add visual interest, and keeping the image from getting monotonous? The whole aspect of the painting has its different spots to look at and admire, again the way the colors make it bright and bold, giving a clear visual of what is happening. The sky that matches the ocean and give a bright appearance that overall stands out, and the vibrancy that each color offers.

7. What could use more work? I personally think what could have used more work, would have been adding some sun aspect into the image. It was in my original idea, but I scrapped it because it would not fit perfectly, but I would like to see it added in and the difference it would make.

8. What is most successful about your finished project? The most successful part of my project was painting Kali Uchis. It is not my first time painting, but it was my first time painting an actual person and I challenged myself and I am proud of that every time I look at my painting.
