Project #6 (Get a taste of your own Medicine) Idiom
Date: November 2024
Materials: GOLDEN Acrylic Paints and Color Wheel
Statement: The idiom project consisted of choosing an idiom that has a figurative meaning. With this composition the idiom has to be translated in visual form and communicating with color and imagery.
Reflection and Analysis:
1. Begin by writing out the Idiom. Get a taste of your own medicine.
2. How did you translate your idea into visual elements? What imagery did you use and why? I translated my idea into this visual element of a single word that came to mind, Karma. I pictured lips that were open, sticking a tongue out with a pill sitting on it, with the word karma engraved on it. Giving it the visual aspect of tasting your own medicine, as a way of tasting your own karma.
3. What colors did you choose to use and why? I chose 4 primary hues, Red, Yellow-Orange, Green, and Blue-Violet. I chose both tints, both shades for red, but not tones. For yellow orange, I chose both tints, both tones, but not shades. For green, I chose both tints but not tones, nor shades. For blue violet, I chose both tints but not tints, nor shades. I chose these colors since they gave me a better aspect of my painting, since some of the darker shades could have dominated.
4. What is the focal point and how did you emphasize it using color (and/or other means)? The focal point would have to be the lips, it dominates the whole aspect of the painting and gives the clear message through. The color makes it bold and stand out amongst everything else.
5. What are dominant values and colors used? The dominant values used are Red, Green, and Yellow Orange.
6. What things are unifying the composition? What is helping to tie it together/keeping it from getting too jumbled or chaotic? The giant lips and tongue help it not get jumbled with everything around and the flying pills around that help control the green and yellow orange lines.
7. What is adding variety to your composition? What is helping to break up the unity, add visual interest, and keeping the image from getting monotonous? The realistic shading that makes everything stand out, and some lighting on specific pieces that gives it an illusion of realism on the lips and pills.
8. What could use more work? I personally think what could use more work would have to be the pill on the tongue, since I tried to give it a realistic visual. I think the word karma could have been shaded better.
9. What is the most successful about your finished project? I think the most successful part about my project would have to be the giant lips. It dominates the point and message its stating. The detailing I added that makes it clear and presents the idiom behind it.
