Harmony and Sensitivity

Project #5 (Dream States)

Date: April 2024

Materials: Graphite Pencils (2B) (4B) (6B)

Statement: My Dream State project was based off many dreams that contained my zodiac sign, Cancer. It mirrors the two most common moods of the cancer sign, such as Happiness and Sadness.

Reflection and Analysis:

What title would you give your project? The title I would name my drawing would be, Harmony and Sensitivity.

What was the subject of your project (within the overall theme of Dreams) Be specific: What is your drawing about? The subject about my project is based on the dreams that have to do with the zodiac. Typically, I get these dreams most of the time. My zodiac sign is a Cancer. I often have many dreams of a zodiac goddess and tend to imagine it after having a dream. But what made me realize is the outcomes that my zodiac sign produces.

What do you want your viewers to think about/feel when looking at your drawing? I would like for the viewers to think how different the zodiac cancer is from their own zodiac signs. Cancers tend to be nurturing and loving, though they are more sensitive and emotional. What could be felt through the drawing is the happiness that is viewed and sadness that is shown beside it, this could make one think and feel their own personal emotions towards the drawing.

What were both your project resources? (Both observation and found). My project resources had to deal with my own personal emotions, happiness and sadness. Personally, the two figures were drawn out of my imagination, I tend to draw a lot of faces in my personal work, though the other objects such as the moon and the crab were things, I looked up to find references. The cloud was something I easily could draw.

What challenges did you encounter with this project? The challenges I encountered with this project was replicating the same face in a mirrored way. I kept retrying due to not getting it on the first try and getting a bit frustrated, causing the paper to leave dark marks of the pencil and having to start over on another paper.

What improvements could be made to your drawing? The improvements I could’ve done would be, adding more detail to the cloud below and adding some designs in the background.

What are you happiest with/find most successful about your drawing? The strongest aspect of my drawing would have to be, the faces of the figures/dolls. This main part of the drawing took multiple tries, I even had to measure certain angles and points to get it exactly how I wanted it to be. Overall, I think this is my most successful aspect, since I’ve drawn faces all the time in my personal work, and I wanted to show my other creative side of art.
