Georgia’s voting policies are established and enforced on a state level, some in which were problematic in the 2018 Governor’s Race. Specifically, the race was problematic because:
– There were approximately 53,000 pending voter registration applications
– GA passed an “exact match” law the year before the race, requiring registration applicants to have an exact match of information on all forms of acceptable identification and records
– Approximately, 80% of the pending applicants are African Americans, Latinos and Asian- Americans
In 2019, approximately 300,000 voter registrations were at risk of being purged in the state of Georgia due to lack of participation in elections over the past three years. Placing these applicants in the same position as it did the 53,000 applicants with pending applications during the 2018 Governor’s Race, unaccounted for.
