All For One and One For All

February 23, 2021 - Blog Post

As an aspiring filmmaker the goal is to show your hard work to the masses and hopefully one day someone will see a piece of your work and give you the break you have been waiting for. I am still in the extremely early stages of getting my name out there, as of now I have submitted my most recent short film Soulless which was filmed during the pandemic last year to the Atlanta Film Festival. I’ve heard of the stories and read all the articles of directors submitting their films into twenty festivals and getting denied for every one of them. Knowing that I am preparing myself for the long but successful road knowing that I am not going to give up till I am given a chance.

Art isn’t a race, no one should be trying to beat the other to get the success, fame, and glory first. Being an artist is extremely vulnerable, you pour your heart and soul into your project and put it out there for the whole world to see depending on the range of your world. Having people there to back you up and support you along the way is key. With that being said I am in the transitional stage of moving the wheels for my next short film Writer’s Block. The point of this blog is to bring up the most important thing that makes a film work which is the team.

I moved down to the Atlanta area over five years ago to pursue my career in the film industry. Being an extra on professional sets, working on independent films, catering for some big Hollywood shows and movies I have tried to make connections. Over the last few years, I have made a few friends that are also in the industry, some have fallen but a few I have made strong connections and great memories with. At the start of last year, I finally built up the courage and asked a few of my friends if they wanted to collaborate for the first time for a script of mine called Getaway. A few of them jumped on board and before I knew it, we were all filming together on a cold weekend in January.

After filming wrapped up and started the editing processes, I would keep in touch with them asking for advice and questions on how to do certain edits. When the film was finished, and I posted it online everyone who was involved with the film supported it and shared it to everyone they thought would be interested. Then it hit me. Building strong and meaningful connections is the key to success. If you surround yourself with others who you deeply care about and want them to succeed as much as you do then you will go far. I will be there if one of my friends wants my thoughts or help on a project and I know they will be there for me too because we all want to be successful at the end of the day. As of this blog we will start filming Writer’s Block in two weeks and I am so excited to make another short film it’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to work with all my friends and dream about the day where we all can be working on a professional set together.
