What technology will be used for the production of Cyburbia?
(With a hypothetical unlimited budget) I’d like to utilize the ILM’s Unreal + OLED “rear projection” display system with integrated camera tracking, and real-time parallax to create the cyberpunk cityscapes during most scenes involving racing with dynamic camera angles and detailed virtual sets.
What do you want the audience to experience or feel?
I want the audience to experience the thrill of “surfing” and discovery that is enabled with the freedom of an e-board. I want the audience to sympathize with a character who has no choice but to use their e-board for guerilla public service and sometimes vigilante justice. I want the audience to understand the feeling of being a group that is actively and unequally targeted by police.
What is the main message you are trying to convey?
This story would also communicate that the surveillance state will never be perfect or serve the public adequately.Sometimes, a community may be better at understanding the needs, desires, and mood of the locals more than an overfunded police force consisting of geographical and cultural outsiders.
Your dreams for the story and experience if you had a year to create it.
I’d love to be able to create virtual sets based on existing locations that could be used for physical reference. If I had an unlimited budget it would be amazing to push the limits of the ILM Stagecraft camera tracking and rear projection technology, whether that means making it portable enough to bring on location or building sets that could accommodate moving (electric skateboard) vehicles within the set.
