Classroom Community Plans:

  • How will you ensure students know where to find and understand class activity instructions?
    • Note handouts are kept at the front of the classroom and students know to pick up the day’s notes before the start of class on the way to their desk.
    • I will pass out group handouts to the class
  • How will you manage technology such as phones or other connected devices?
    • I will allow students to periodically check their phones or otherwise take a mental break from the lesson.
    • I will allow students who have a high enough grade to have no technology restrictions during class so long as they maintain their grade and are not a disruption to others.
  • In what ways will you respond to interruptions or disruptions?
    • I will go over respectful behavior and demonstrate it to my students.
    • I will stress the importance of not being disruptive to other students who are trying to focus on the lesson.
    • I will not devote too much time to be a distraction for other students in dealing with a disruption
  • How will you provide other additional support that may be needed (for students who are disengaged or who do not understand)?
    • Resources for student use outside of class time will be posted and available for students on the online class portal.
    • I will ensure that students know that I care about their success and want to help them succeed.
    • I will make sure that there are no long stretches of time without student interaction or dialog.
    • I will relate the content the students are learning to things that they see in their daily life.
    • I will remind students that both my mentor teacher and I are willing to work with students individually before or after school or during a student’s study hall time
  • What are your plans for transitions from one activity of the lesson to another?
    • I plan to have opportunities for student engagement to transition from one phase to another of the lesson.
    • I also will indicate clearly verbally when transitioning from the beginning of the lesson into the heart of the content to students.
    • In the transition from the Body to Closure students will have a few minutes for review and a dedicated time for students to ask questions. This will then transition naturally into the group activity at the end of the lesson.
    • I will keep an eye on the clock and transition earlier if I feel I might be unable to bring the class to closure at the current pace. This will ensure the class ends naturally with a suitable closing activity.
  • How will you use/reinforce classroom norms?
    • Each student will be greeted by name and then their names will be used when calling on or responding to students.
    • Students who are beginning to distract others or losing focus will be called out to regain attention at the front of the room.
    • I will model the behavior I expect of students and maintain a respectful environment for everyone in the class
  • How will you handle supplies needed for the lesson?
    • Any supplies needed for the lesson such as pencils, paper, calculators, and colored pencils will be provided to students on an as-needed basis.
    • Students will not require any additional supplies outside of those provided by the teacher
  • What are the physical components of the classroom, such as desk arrangement, stations, cooperative learning groups, etc. that support your learning objectives?
    • The classroom has been prearranged with desks filling the vast majority of the classroom. There is a lane in the back of the class so that I can walk behind students to check their progress and help those who need assistance.

Students can work with their neighbors on the group practice activity prior to the individual work. To minimize disruption students will not be allowed to move across the classroom or form groups larger than 4 to 5 people
