This is an overview of the path I’ve taken to get to this point in my educational career. Before college I went to a private school, a public school, and was also home-schooled for a year all of which gave me a unique look at the different types of schooling students can experience. The majority of my time was spent at a Christian private school which had an extremely small student body of 80 in my high school, with a graduating class of 15. This then resulted in quite the culture shift as I went off to college at Georgia College & State University (GCSU) down in Milledgeville, Georgia. While at GCSU, I picked up tutoring at the college’s math help desk as a way to earn some extra cash and because I found it really fun to help other students who were struggling. I originally was going to GCSU as part of a transfer program to Georgia Tech, but I decided to transfer early after spending a year and a half down in Milledgeville. Georgia Tech was quite the challenging college and had a very different atmosphere from GCSU, one that I personally did not like as much.
I was at Georgia Tech from January of 2017 until my graduation in December of 2019. While at Georgia Tech I was no longer able to tutor as often which I found disappointing. I ended up getting a job in the mechanical engineering department doing tech support to support myself. Following that I picked up a research position at the Georgia Tech Research Institute where I worked on the design of aircraft defense systems. After a little over two years at Georgia Tech I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and continued on with my role at the Georgia Tech Research Institute. As I approached my graduation date I was pretty unhappy with my program and was considering a change to my passion of education. After a considerable time thinking about this I decided to apply to Georgia State while still working at Georgia Tech. Once I got in, I was originally unable to afford any courses in the first semester I was admitted so I did not begin classes until Fall 2020. Now that I’m approaching the end of the program I am glad that I made the decision that I did in regarding my pursuit of education as a career. I will be doing my first year as a provisional teaching intern in Fall 2021 at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County.
