Though this class took place before I was in the Rhetoric and Composition concentration, I feel this paper was the final push I needed to change my concentration from Secondary Education to something I felt was more “me”. Within this assignment I had to analyze a graphic history novel titled Abina. I chose a few pictures from the work to analyze and went into depth in the role they played in telling the story without words. I discussed the colors, angles, placements, and facial expressions in each picture and what I thought they meant in correlation with the narrative that was being told. In Rhetoric and Composition we do a lot of analyzing of images especially in images that are seen by a public audience. Analyzing the photos in Abina made me realize that it was something I wanted to do for more than just novels, but speeches, marketing and advertising, and other general media. I felt that I had found my niche after analyzing images so closely, but I knew that being so late in my college education that switching my concentration to Rhetoric and Composition would be the best move to better hone in on where I wanted to go in my career.
