Chapter 5: Site Structure

Semantic Content Markup

This section focuses on the elements necessary to strategically ensure your page content will be useful and visible on the internet. To accomplish this, one must set markup and editorial standards from semantic markup techniques and standard HTML document types through the development process.

Site File Structure

This chapter focuses on the internal details when building a site, such as how your files, naming, and directory structure can create better user results. Meaning when carefully thought out and applied, users can more easily understand site language, universal accessibility features, search optimization, and changes in site management and expansion more simply.

Search Engine Optimization

In this chapter, the authors have outlined search optimization techniques that can help enhance how a site is formed and more easily find things while also ensuring well-formed and important information has not been hidden.

My Response

In the section on Site File Structure the idea that inner workings need to be carefully planned and thought even though it is not something the users may use or see will still benefit the site in the long run. This made a lot of sense, but what I liked most about this section is how the authors clearly outlined the steps and features necessary to incorporating them into your site. As building a site is very unfamiliar to me, especially when it comes to the inner workings it was nice to have this chapter give insight into how to increase user friendliness through your behind the scenes work.
