Panda
On the Zoo Atlanta site it still has Giant pandas described as “giant pandas are an endangered species facing serious threats from habitat fragmentation and habitat loss via deforestation.” when the National Geographic sites says that “Efforts to save the giant panda, a worldwide symbol of wildlife conservation for half a century, are paying off: The iconic black-and-white bear is no longer endangered, the international body for species protection said on Sunday.” ( Christine Dell’Amore, “Giant Pandas, Symbol of Conservation, Are No Longer Endangered”) which was posted on September 4th, 2016 and the date is now November 30th,2016. The habitat that the Zoo Atlanta has placed the Giant Pandas in also creates destructive beliefs about the animals. On the Zoo Atlanta site it describes the normal habitat as “broadleaf and coniferous forests with a dense understory of bamboo, at elevations between 5,000 and 10,000 feet. Torrential rains or dense mist throughout the year characterizes these forests, often shrouded in heavy clouds”. Anyone who lives in/ has been to Atlanta knows that it can get up to 100 degrees and no cloud coverage in the summer. Although the Zoo Atlanta does work with Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the way that they house the giant pandas cultivates destructive beliefs about the wild pandas.
