Favorite Movie (1/31/23)

My all-time favorite movie would have to be something that contains a great deal of action but also a movie that includes an inspiring message that can motivate me, and that movie would have to be, “SOLO: A Star Wars Story.” This movie is the backstory of one of Hollywood’s most beloved character Han Solo. This story is about Han Solo’s young adult life trying to get out of a terrible place where he is being held captive only to make his boss money to pay off his debts. He does manage to overcome all odds and make a great escape, which is the main theme or message I continue to see in this cinematic masterpiece. He is left with a great scar because he left the love of his life but is still determined to overcome all odds and make money to buy them a great spaceship with the plan of rescuing her. The movie is quite beautiful in terms of the cinematography and CGI. The impression this movie makes is that Solo overcomes all odds no matter the cost or his circumstances. Solo always manages to pull ahead no matter what even if he is knocked back four or five spaces, he always manages to go ahead tenfold. This impacts me because I hope to pull ahead in anything I do no matter the circumstances that are against me.

Rhetorical Analysis (1/26/23)

I believe this news article speaks the most to me about a huge problem we see in America today. There is a massive division on how different races see racism as a whole and how they are treated in America. This news article has data that portrays how Blacks and Whites see how they are treated in America. According to this news article, “An overwhelming 87% of black Americans say black people face a lot of discrimination in the United States, but only 49% of white Americans say the same thing” (Struyk). This article uses the application of Logos by providing the facts and statistics of the American people; significantly for the American people to deliver better insight into the real problems people like myself face every day. This quote also applies the element of Kairos by publishing this article at the perfect time when the Charlottesville event happened. This communication piece communicates with me because some people are truly oblivious to the other side of how badly one can be treated. Stereotypes are only a minuscule problem in the bigger picture but they still manage to affect people like me by tossing us to one corner and telling us the only thing we’re good for is the stereotype the race has. The mistreatment is the much bigger picture that my parent has faced by being rejected of certain jobs and being neglected as a person that does not fit in. The harsher treatment by the police has also been a huge problem. The other side does not see this problem as often so they have a whole different picture of racism.

Narrative-Fresh Start (1/17/23)

Much like Evelyn’s story, I too have had similar social struggles in the past. I used to be shy and nervous in new social situations with people I have never met. I believe this began in the 5th grade, when I started going to a new school I had never attended. In the past I always was in my comfort zone with people I had seen every day, so socializing with them was no problem. Now the scene had changed completely. I knew absolutely no one at this school so my shy and nervous tendencies began to shine. One day I had enough of being nervous and always having the fear of messing up and making everyone dislike me. I realized that everyone was exactly the same and there was truly nothing special about them that I did not have as well, and that anything I said or did would easily be forgotten about in a week or so. I would soon gain the confidence to be myself and started to talk to just about anyone. This level of maturing or acceptance that I am worthy of being liked and accepted is what has helped me to leave my fear of messing up in any social situation.
