“Any man can travel light until he has a wife or children. That’s part of my case against marriage. I’m a holy man minus the holiness” (64)
A Passage to India harbors a sexist attitude throughout the text. In this text, women are seen as burdens and extra baggage to drag around. At some point the women such as Aziz’s wife and Adela get reduced to pawns who are exchanged between male to male confrontations. The importance of this quote is still prevalent in today’s culture where the bachelor life is glorified and having a wife and kids is considered to be “tied down”.
