Aesthetics, The Turn of the Screw

The aesthetics of James’, The Turn of the Screw, is regards to the point of view, it seems to shift between characters. I feel as if this method makes it slightly difficult to follow along with all the characters, thus one can miss an important theme or idea throughout the book. I do however appreciate James’ use of the metaphor of ghosts representing the evil in people. I find it interesting that the governess believes any interactions with the ghosts, makes the person who’s had the interaction possess a small part of the ghosts’ evilness. Nevertheless, the children are a representation of the goodness in life, yet interact with the evil spirits, making the governess presume they too are evil. Lastly, the setting is a very nice element because it adds to the spookiness of the overall story.
