Section 1/ Summary:

LSU is a is a public land-grant research university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. What does LSU look for in a student: Well-educated, Hardworking, Responsible, Smart, Trusting, and Dedicated. Why LSU: It provides many opportunities for graduates, undergraduates, and
those who don’t know what to do in the future. The Author uses Audience and Case Studies.

Section 2/ Analysis:

In the essay, the author shows 1 APATSARC strategy and 1 Rhetorical strategy the University’s website uses encourage students to attend. The author goes to the main website to find different facts and accomplishments about the University to show the reader. For APATSARC, the website uses Audience, in a section of an article called About LSU, one-part states, “they’re dedicated to changing lives”, it makes reader feel interested because states that the university is determined to help if the student is struggling. Another section of the article called Missions and Values, it states “As the flagship institution of the state, the vision of Louisiana State University is to be a leading research-extensive university, challenging undergraduate and graduate students to achieve the highest levels of intellectual and personal development” it surprises the reader shows that the University will challenge anyone who plans on attending or is already attending to difficult tasks throughout their semester. Another section of the article called Ready to Continue the Tiger Tradition of Excellence? (As if the author is asking the reader or the audience a question), it states “Earning our distinction as an elite research university did not happen by chance. It took passionate commitment for finding answers that others could not. Here at LSU, you will work alongside the most highly acclaimed professors—who are making daily discoveries that positively impact the world—and will have access to unique opportunities and resources that position you for lifelong success.” it amazes the reader by showing how hard working the University is. In a interesting section of the main website named It’s More Than Research shares information saying “At LSU, Louisiana’s flagship institution, the research we perform is not only our duty, but also what drives us. From cancer and diabetes to coastal sustainability, energy, and agriculture, we improve the lives of our neighbors and loved ones every day. In the past year alone, LSU garnered $160 million in research funds, which returned $490 million in economic impact to the state”. This is what the author shares with the reader/ audience or those who want to do more for the university outside of the classroom. In a section called Experience the LSU Community, it states that students can “take a walk around the lakes, catch a show at one of our many theaters or visit one of the galleries or museums on campus”. Another section called Event Calendar consists of movie nights, guest lectures, concerts and more. Both these sections show the reader some of the many activities to do at the university. For Rhetorical, the website uses Case Studies, in a section called LSU by Numbers, it shows the reader or audience many records and achievements, the University has: 35,000+ for Student population, 1 of 24 Universities nationwide holding land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant designations, 16 Division 1 athletic teams, 1 of 8 Universities in the country with a law school, dental school, medical school, veterinary school, and an elite MBA program, $470M Amount of federal funding brought in by LSU institutions to the state, and $5.1B LSU′s economic impact on Louisiana  – A study by the Economics & Policy Research Group at the E. J. Ourso College of Business. On the main website, LSU provides many opportunities for those who wish to attend college there. The website also shows Featured News to those who don’t know what’s happened recently at the campus. It shows different articles like: LSU Home of Most Important Private Collection of African American Poetry, LSU Earns 2021 Tree Campus USA Distinction from Arbor Day Foundation for 10th Year, and Beyond Biodegradable Mardi Gras Beads. The author informs the reader about the Historic Milestones the University has.

Section 3/ Response:

Would I go to this college? If I lived in the state of Louisiana then yes, but right now I’m living in Georgia. The Money System I looked is mind-blowing, Tuition and Fees (Louisiana Resident: $11,958/ Non-Louisiana Resident: $28,635), Housing (Both Louisiana and Non-Louisiana Resident are the same with $8,376), Meal Plan (12 Tiger Meals) (Both Louisiana and Non-Louisiana Resident are also the same with $4,434), In TOTAL for Louisiana Resident: $24,768 and for Non-Louisiana Resident: $41,445. If it moved to Georgia, I would still probably go. If there is one value word that I would describe LSU, it would be success. It describes the result of hard work and dedication the students put in. Early 2022, I was getting interested in the State of Louisiana with their unique Creole and Cajun culture, food, jazz music, Mardi Gras festival and voodoo lore and I wondered what their college level of education is like down there. I wanted to know more about LSU thanks to their football team, when I looked at some live photos of the campus, I was blown away. I then imagined the achievements and accomplishments I could make if I was a student who enrolled there. I would embrace the new atmosphere, environments, and probably learn a lot about Cajun Culture. So, these are all the reason’s why I chose LSU as my chose for the project.

College hacks.

When you eat different kinds of gum for when you study multiple subjects at once, remember which one’s match which and use the same kind to chew again during test time so you can help remember it. This is one of many ways to help memorize information by association, such as chewing gum, repeating things, sensory memorization, and acronyms.

Final Hacks

  1. Angel, Hollard, Toonna (Group 3)
  2. A good study practice is studying in smaller increments of time as it improves long-term memory and retention.
  3. To successfully master a subject, you should:
    1. Make time to study. You don’t want to start studying and be abruptly interrupted, so allot at most an hour of time to give yourself room for any mishaps/preparation.
    2. Find a suitable atmosphere to study—a nice quiet place to study such as your bedroom or a library.
    3. Separate yourself from all possible distractions. If you know you tend to look at your phone (or anything else) constantly, be sure to set it aside, so it doesn’t distract you.
    4. Gather everything you’ll need to be successful. This includes notes, homework, or even a small snack to keep you focused on your study session.
    5. Once you’re settled, set up a timer for 45 minutes and begin your study session. Be sure to take your time and not rush. Studying in smaller increments of time is more beneficial to your long-term memory than cramming information.
    6. Repeat this process once or twice a day until you master the subject. Avoid doing this process within 4 hours of your last study session, over the same subject. Feel free to study another subject utilizing the same process to reduce repetitiveness.

Summary

Southern University and A&M College look for students who represent leadership, powerful academic achievement, and an extensive diversity of abilities. Students who have these attributes should attend this university. To connect with organizations, define leaders, and socialize with peers. This university structured its website to speak to those who know they can accomplish anything in life and will have all the support they need. It describes the rhetorical strategy of the Imagined ideal reader to appeal to students. Southern University and A&M College’s most popular majors include Health Professions and Related Programs; Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting, and Related Protective Services; Psychology; Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies. Fun

Analysis

On the website for Southern University and A&M College, the first thing you see is a banner of graduates and letters in white that says (Finish Stronger) underneath that is (Through academics, student life, community involvement, and more, Southern prepares students for success beyond the classroom). The college website uses logos along with imagining the ideal reader.

The large rhetorical strategy to imagine an ideal reader can be seen when the author states “The College of Sciences and Engineering provides students with technological skills and opportunities that stimulate professional, educational, and personal growth. The college provides this growth through a diverse faculty and staff that is committed to teaching, research, and service. Students are encouraged to participate in laboratory research and cooperative education programs that enhance career confidence.” The author wants the reader to know they’re looking for future scientists that will make a difference.  And logos state how their graduates find jobs in the most recognizable and private government agencies. “Southern is one of the top producers of Black engineers in the nation. Students and graduates are regularly placed at some of the most recognizable private and governmental agencies.”

By using logos on their websites, a lot of other data, facts, and numbers. For example, “The College of Engineering at Southern University, Baton Rouge can be best understood through an examination of its history. Southern University was established by Louisiana State Legislature Act 87 in 1880 to serve as an institution of higher learning, graduating students, and graduate degrees pertaining to arts and letters for persons of color. Throughout the early years and until 1954, industrial job training curricula were limited to vocational and industrial arts education programs with a major emphasis on teacher education. During the early fifties, the need for more mathematically and scientifically oriented curriculums surfaced. The Division of Technology was established in 1954, which offered a four-year baccalaureate program leading to a non-teaching degree in electronics. The engineering college was established in 1956 as one of nine colleges at Southern University at Baton Rouge.” This shows how the author uses statistics and history to prove why this university is a great choice compared to all other colleges.

Moving on to the structure of the website as mentioned in my first paragraph of this section the website starts off with a banner of graduates and letters in white that says (Finish Stronger) underneath that is (Through academics, student life, community involvement, and more, Southern prepares students for success beyond the classroom). Next below that there’s another banner that says (Become a Jag) and then beside that links to apply, majors, tuition, and financial aid. And then it’s a slide animation which as the celebrating Founder’s Day of 142 years of Southern University, Southern University receives coveted R2 ‘high research’ Carnegie designation, and lastly Vote for SU home dept retool your school. After that, it’s another banner with a cheetah print that says (EXCELLENCE DEFINES US. PRIDE SUSTAINS US. TRADITION GUIDES US.) Underneath that it shows their featured programs which are nursing and allied health and science and engineering. Then it’s a list of their news and events. Finally, it’s a huge picture of their whole campus from the outside.

Response

Yes, I would attend this university. I am one of those who know what they want to do. They do a veterinarian program which is great for me. And they are an hbcu which is amazing. Regardless of location or money, I think this is a great university. I believe it would be a fantastic experience for me. SUBR offers quite a few options for students. For example, they have a criminal justice program which is phenomenal for me because I want to become a lawyer. Also is what I’m currently studying. As I mentioned before it is an hbcu which stands for (Historically Black College and University). It is one of the largest HBCUs in Louisiana. They provide a steady, healthy environment. And they are institutions of expectational education. Hbcu are more affordable and prepare you for life after college. The location and area of the college are very nice. I could picture myself having a great time on campus and around my peers. I would attend this university because the culture is amazing, and no one is left out. I like the fact that they prepare students for what life is going to be like after college. I feel like not a lot or even any colleges teach you what life is going to be like after college. Whether that’s going to apply for a job first or get an apartment, starting a business, investing in your passion, or finding an internship. Whatever the case, I think that being prepared after college is important.

SAR Paper

March 9, 2022

dmekonnen1@student.gsu.edu

Summary

Lipscomb University is a private Christian university in Nashville, Tennesse, founded by David Lipscomb and James A. Harding. The ideal student for Lipscomb is God fearing and a devoted Christian. Lipscomb encourages spiritual growth and cares deeply for its “well-rounded education,” which is why any student should be lucky to even be considered. It allows students to find their individual path due to small classroom sizes which differ from other universities. As for academics, it is a “nationally recognized research institution” whose undergraduate and graduate programs have been ranked one of the highest.

Analysis

The Lipscomb University web page uses the large rhetorical strategy of Inhabiting/ Engaging Social Roles and the rhetorical style of audience to persuade a certain group of readers. The social roles they play at Lipscomb University would be closest to stepfamily. The website tries to make you feel welcome, so often that it can come off as them trying a little too hard to prove something. And although they try to make you feel welcome, there’s still something missing. The rhetorical style of audience used was made to gain students with similar beliefs and faith and take the approach of religious paths to influence those across the country that this would be the best college for them. They mostly engage readers by using the rhetorical style of audience, mostly when touching on the “foundation of faith” (LU, 4) and togetherness. The target audience is towards Christians and those who believe of a higher power. More specifically those who believes their calling is specifically from God His self. However, religion and faith are not the only things Lipscomb tries to persuade readers with.

Their page not only leads to an influence on spiritual students but to academic ranking seekers as well. “Our undergraduate and graduate programs have been ranked among the highest in the country, including our education, health care and business programs, to name a few,” (LU, 2) it states. By stating this, it influences new students to take this knowledge and use it as a pro to pick this specific college. It also speaks about community and clubs, and it promises you an ideal place where people are accepted and connected through belief. Lipscomb’s primary focus is on faith and religion, and if people take a quick glance, it sometimes looks like that is all they have to offer students. But reading it thoroughly can cause students to do a double-take, realizing they may indeed have more to offer than they presumed. Lipscomb has clubs and programs that help deepen their students’ knowledge, they offer rigorous academic help.

While Lipscomb may be an all-around all about Christ school, they also seem to promise that students there “succeed in academic excellence” (LU, 6). Which shown on their page, seems to be true. Lipscomb is ranked high as a top-tier national university. They help students with academic issues, lending them resources and programs that help better their understanding and education. “You will be part of a campus recognized as much for its quality as its generosity, with programs that propel your imagination as much as your career, technologies that transcend boundaries as they build communities, faculty whose curiosity is matched only by their compassion, and students like yourself whose characters are as deep as their faith” (LU, 1). Most Universities go in with the intent of capturing students with facts and academics, but Lipscomb leading with compassion and friendship changes the narrative. By continuing with this, they engage students with a “everyone loves it here” attitude, their initial intent making them different from any other establishment.

In this website, they try to prove to readers that they would love it there, of course using Inhabiting / Engaging Social Roles the rhetorical style of audience. Eventually, the stepfamily starts to feel alright, like a second home almost, once they get comfortable. And as for the audience, although they seem to highlight faith as well as which group to target, they prove that although Lipscomb may be a Christian school, their schooling is nothing but top tier. Their community and togetherness show you that anybody is welcome. These types of things influence new coming first-year students, that have no idea of what to expect of college. If anything, Lipscomb is a great decision for students that may feel like they won’t fit in at most schools. They use this to their advantage, knowing they have what most schools do not, love, peers and faculty that genuinely care.

Response

If money were not the issue, I honestly don’t think I would go, it’s nothing personal, it just doesn’t seem like they have much diversity at Lipscomb, due to the pictures they display. It seems like even for groups, sports, and clubs it only displays white people, versus any other race. Aside from this, I have always imagined staying in Goergia. But if this school resided in Georgia and if it were more diverse, I’d definitely want to attend. Although I am Christian, the specific type of Christianity that the school teaches and what I personally follow do not align. Although it might cause problems, I believe that as long as I don’t engage in all aspects of the religious part of the school, I will be alright. My religious background is of the Orthodox church, similar to the Catholic beliefs but still not quite the same. Past the religious barriers, the academic aspect looks good and exciting but for all its claims on the website, you would think it was a nationwide known school, but it seems like the only people that take a knowing to it, is if you resign in Tennesse. To me, it seems like a union, with friendship and care from the students and teachers. Although a few values about faith align with mine, it makes me feel like their caring and nurturing is authentic. I have to say, If I were a senior in high school trying to see which school would be best for me, I would have chosen this one, if it was in Georgia, of course. They sell it well when it comes to capturing the new coming first-year audience. Personally, I feel that I would have blended in well, this says a lot since I’ve never been able to blend well in previous schools. I just wish there were a bit more diversity showcased. If it were not for the lack of diversity Lipscomb University would be my dream school.

Major Project 3

Summary: Salisbury University is a university located on the Eastern shore of Maryland. The university is more focused on student engagement and entertainment, due to the university presenting the nearby beach as a reason to attend and using language such as “catch a wave” to set a friendly tone with applicants. Testimonials from students are included as well, to further set the “welcoming” mood. Overall, the university is like a friend inviting the applicant to a large social club.

Analysis: The university employs pathos and the Imagining Ideal Readers strategy to persuade its target audience to attend there. Salisbury is a university catered towards a student really eager to live the “college experience”, a student’s life in college where they have fun interactions, enjoy the environment, and whatever the student may deem as enjoying themselves throughout their college years. The university sets its intention to provide the “college experience” clear with the text, “Salisbury is a right-size school with a powerful sense of community. Our beautiful 200-acre campus has a positive energy – and is a welcoming environment that feels like home” (Salisbury). A student looking for a positive college experience will be inclined to apply due to the friendly tone of the university, as they can feel as if they are right at home, and can avoid a dead college campus. Dead college campuses can cause students looking for the “college experience” to feel out of place, unmotivated, and mundane during their college career. After all, especially for full-time students, college is something that students devote a large part of their life to, and a large portion of students looking for the “college experience” mental health can be taxed if a student has little amounts of positive social interaction. Overall, Salisbury appeals to the emotions the student looking for the “college experience” may look for during their academic career.

Salisbury strengthens the idea of providing a positive social environment by presenting other amenities, such as the beach, and another section titled “Student Life” describing the activities present at the university. In the section titled “Student Life”, Salisbury states, “Life as a resident at Salisbury offers a wide array of recreational and social activities. Our students enjoy nationally competitive club teams; intramural sports; access to fitness, aquatic and tennis facilities…” Salisbury appeals to every kind of student interested in this university, allowing everyone applying to feel welcome. In general, the university’s invitation for the applicant that Salisbury is a university where they can express themselves with like-minded individuals (Salilsbury) furthers the welcoming tone that is set at the beginning of the website. The university displays how they have a diverse community as well, citing that they have a wide range of backgrounds (Salisbury). Minorities applying can feel comfortable that they may meet someone of the same or similar ethnicity or nationality there, allowing them to feel welcomed and ease the social anxieties that a student looking to live the “college experience” may feel, such as not fitting in. Unlike high school, college has a wide range of types of students, ranging from students older than 65 attending, to international students, to students who commute and have little involvement in non-academic areas of the school. As a result, it is more difficult to find a group that a college student can easily relate to and connect with, but Salisbury offers a place that a student can find themselves and their people.

Salisbury has other elements further down the webpage, intended for students who’ve been interested enough to progress further. Salisbury provides direct links on the homepage to clubs, sports, residency programs, and student government as a sense of confirmation among applicants looking for the college experience. Additionally, students are required to stay on campus for four semesters (Salisbury), which guarantees a substantial student presence at the school. This requirement inclines students to attend and participate in the school’s events and extracurriculars, fortifying the two strategies used on the website to draw students to apply: Imagining Ideal Readers, and pathos.

Response: I would not go to this school, even if it was within five miles of my house. The requirement of having to stay at the campus for two years disgusts me, as I am a person who does not like being chained to some sort of requirement. However, even if this requirement was removed, I would still not attend. The overall environment that the university is trying to push, the “college experience” is not something that aligns with my values. I am not interested in doing college sports or hanging around in an environment that encourages drugs, sex, and/or parties of any form. Overall, the idea of the American “college experience” is something not appealing to me. I do enjoy having social interactions with people and having fun, but in a reserved, laid-back setting that I prefer. I am not an introvert who hates people, as I do go out with my friends often, but I feel that simple things such as intramurals and going out to eat are best for me and my friends. GSU helps facilitate my social preference perfectly, as it is a school not too focused on student life but still in a relevant location, Atlanta, allowing me to meet like-minded individuals. While Salisbury does diversify their target audience, they only target those eager enough to let themselves stay for two years at a college dorm, basically the extreme end of the spectrum. Therefore, I would not attend this university,

Major Project 3 Vassar College

Isaac Johnson

English 1102 SAR Paper

“Vassar College” SAR

Summary

Vassar is primarily directed towards very intellectual, liberal thinking, driven, open-minded individuals. Originally, what was a women’s college that provided a higher education, has opened its doors to everyone from all backgrounds, with heavy emphasis on including a diverse, very supportive environment for all types of students. Their ideal student is a very smart, marginalized person who is seeking a quality education. The website does this by using the rhetorical strategies that focus on their audience, and by using Kairos.

Analysis

In the text, the website uses the large rhetorical strategy Kairos and the rhetorical style Audience when appealing to their readers. Vassar seeks to do this in their many mission statements present in the article. The website does a great job at voicing for inclusion, which is one of their core values as an institution. Because of this, many different readers can view the website and have it resonate with them in some way. In terms of timing and appropriateness however, the website immediately makes a statement regarding the land the college was built on and the respect and relationship it has for the original natives that called that place home. In the section labeled Land Acknowledgement, the website states that “every member of the Vassar community since 1861 has benefited from these Native peoples’ displacement, and it is hollow without our efforts to counter the effects of structures that have long enabled—and that still perpetuate—injustice against Indigenous Americans.” (Land Acknowledgement, Vassar College (2)) This is a strategic way to show the college’s moral stance on the issue of colonization and misrepresented communities. It is placed very early on in order to appeal to the reader, and further support that inclusive message they want to present. Soon after this section, the website chooses to introduce its history section. Regarding the history section, the college takes a lot of firsts in terms of being progressive and open to new concepts for that time. Near the end of this section, they succinctly restate their core values. The text states that “the unique traditions upon which the college was founded continue to be upheld today: a determination to excel, a willingness to experiment, a dedication to the values of the liberal arts and sciences, a commitment to the advancement of equality between the sexes, and the development of leadership.(A History of Vassar College (3)). This section specifically supports fighting the current issue of inequalities all genders face in society. It’s a nice closing statement, particularly when appealing towards their more liberal and progressive audience that hold these values in their own lives. The last two sections cover their initiatives, diversity and sustainability, as well as follow up links for full statements. These are current issues we must deal with in our society and in our colleges. This section was strategically placed here to remind us that the school is acknowledging the current issues. When looking at the text, its very noticeable how it markets for its audience. When persuading its readers, the college puts lots of emphasis on its values and philanthropic initiatives, rather than its academic achievements and money. This alone is very telling about them as an institution. It gives the audience a sense of goodwill from the institution, which makes people more likely to want to apply. Their inclusive values also give the reader a sense of familiarity and support that would make people want to apply. It also gives people a sense of safety, especially minorities that may have struggles to fit in a large institution like this.

Response

This school is definitely one I would consider looking into visiting in the future. Money isn’t an issue here. Looking at their values, history, many programs and groups they support, it seems like a very good fit. The main values that stuck out to me were their diversity and sustainability initiatives. Its rare that you can find a diverse college, or an open-minded one as well. I like the idea that they want to make sure everyone feels the same in terms of inclusion and support. I am also in support of anything green and knowing that the school is in support of that, it makes me happy. I like the fact that they focus on art heavy as well. This was a key part of the history section, and art is a personal interest of mine. However, when also reading the text, the tone is very formal and smart. It took me multiple times to read through everything. Thinking about this, I am not sure I’ll be smart enough for a school like this. It seems like they are geared towards an audience that is on a much higher level of thinking, which may be a huge struggle for me during a semester. Its one thing being smart, but I want to make sure I can understand what I’m learning. Other than that, it sounds like a wonderful place to attend.

The website of UC San Diego is a bold and illustrative attempt to attract students from a high variance of backgrounds that have a drive to change their communities and become “global leaders” (https://ucsd.edu/about/index.html). Through intense language and daring expectations, the school presents itself as a place for high achievers and steep competition. The rhetorical strategies used by the website designers include the assumptions they make about the visitors of the website and the ideal readers, or the ideal students, that the university is actively persuading to attend their school.

Analysis

Currently, a first-time visitor of the UC San Diego website would be met with the smiling faces of women celebrating “Herstory” Month. There is little to no clutter on the initial home page with wide margins surrounding a brief paragraph relaying the school’s commemoration. There is no confusion as to where to look. Everything to be read is stacked in singular sections and utilizes the visitor’s entire monitor with one message and one-color scheme. After the Women’s History message, newly accepted students are welcomed and asked to “Visit your Applicant Portal to discover more about what makes UC San Diego unique” (UCSD Website- Home page). Very quickly the audience has already been shown a club they are not a part of. An applicant portal is only useful for those applying or have been accepted to the school. The school could have instead further advertised itself with the runner up spot of the home page, but it opted not to because of what they assume about their audience. Perhaps the first time a high schooler visits this site they won’t know when the school was formed or how good or bad their medical program is, but they will know that UCSD is highly competitive school. Assuming this, UCSD web developers further press the nerve of competition. Their ideal readers are the over-achievers, those that seek out to go to the best school they possibly can. Welcoming newly accepted and waving the applicant portal on the top of the front page heavily caters towards the competitive college-searchers that want to cut straight to business.

Along with high achieving academic statistics, diversity and inclusion is a core value frequently discussed on the website. There is an entire page dedicated to diversity which encourages students to “engage in self-reflection and dialogue” and “become a social justice leader” (https://ucsd.edu/student-life/diversity/index.html) . The reasoning behind why UCSD chooses to prioritize diversity may be multifactored. On one hand, the school is exceptionally diverse with white students comprising only 19.3% of the entire school following Asian (33.1%) and Hispanic (21.9%) students, which could mean the school would be inclined to encourage acceptance and inclusivity to help its student body. Diversity has also historically been a prized achievement that colleges and universities have strived to obtain and showcase, an achievement so widely sought for it even caught the attention of the Supreme Court. Regardless of the reasoning behind it, the website makes it clear that UCSD is a place where diversity is welcomed and happily spoken about, which points to their ideal readers who are willing to work with people who come from different backgrounds. The extent of the school’s diversity incentivizes the website creators to actively seek out these students.

In accordance with it’s diversity, 17.5% of UCSD’s student body are international students (https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/university-of-california-san-diego/student-life/diversity/). This presents itself in the language of certain parts of the website. For instance, a section of the “about” page affirmed that the school would “prepare the next generation of global leaders” ( https://ucsd.edu/about/index.html) and that “UC San Diego first-year and transfer students come from all over California and throughout the word” (https://ucsd.edu/admissions-aid/index.html) — the latter quote coming from their admissions page. This builds on the websites goal of reaching out to specific audiences.

Beyond academics and the overall structure of the school, there is an underlying assumption within the website over a preference in climate. San Diego is of course located in Southern California, which is a place not so well known for its ski slopes. The website ensures to show very appetizing photos of a warm beach under a low sunset along with pictures of wide, private shores convincingly capable of taking away all of a person’s worries. The website developers clearly assume that this sort of climate is preferable to those applying to the school, especially considering that many applicants would be from California or at least be aware of what the weather would be like there before applying.

Response

Would I go to this school? Yes, absolutely. If it weren’t for logistical complications, I would very much like to attend that school. For me, however, there would be a big struggle with the heated competition of the school. It is extremely difficult to get in, but assuming that I would for the sake of this question, I would likely feel a lot of unwanted pressure from my peers and professors, whether it be intentional or not. I am the type of person where competition can really hurt my focus. In fact, I would always struggle to finish assignments in high school that were graded on time. In math if I had to beat my pears by finishing an assignment before them, I would be unable to concentrate. The only way I can be successful is if I can completely focus on myself and my work and not have to worry about what other people are doing. Looking over my shoulder to see what my competitors are doing is something I avoid like the plague.

With that being said, I think I am capable enough to attend this level of a school. I would especially be interested in their global policy and strategy school, as foreign affairs and geopolitics is something that I love to learn about. As seen on their website, this school has so much funding and is so well known across the country that it is a considerable force of opportunity for any student.
