  1. spending good amount of time with the Course material, Reviewing all the materials before the exam

As an entire group we think that studying in detail for final exam is not accurate. It’s less time efficient instead we can intensely review the course material provided by the professor including the study guide provided by the professors. While reviewing the course material we need to make sure we give equal amount of time for the different courses. Instead of spending our time in one course we can do two courses a day. While we are studying we need to make sure we need a good break to absorb what we are learning. During the break we need to stay away from electronic device .Instead we can do long walk working out or calling your friend

Major Project Assignment 3 (SAR)

Dr. Rebecca Weaver

ENGL 1102

Summary

Minnesota State University, Mankato (MNSU) is a public university located in Mankato, Minnesota, about an hour and thirty minutes from the Twin Cities. Their college website is an appealing site that introduces the institution’s green campus with a live video and also includes almost all of the essential information that might help students choose a college. This university provides 130 undergraduate programs, 75 graduate degrees, and four PhD programs. It is also well-known for international student recruitment and the financial assistance it provides to help students achieve academic success. They are seeking for a student that has great ideas, can excel in a variety of fields both in and out of the classroom in real life, engages in community activities on the diverse campus, and contributes value to the institution as a whole. And this university would be preferred by the student since it is a huge campus located in a peaceful natural location outside of the city, is widely recognized for its cutting-edge research, has a diversified population, and provides a considerable amount of financial assistance, but it also has winter weather.

Analysis

Minnesota State University, Mankato tried to convince readers or students to begin their studies at their school by using purpose from the APARTSARC strategies and imagining ideal readers from the large rhetorical devices on their website. Almost all critical information about the institution that is useful in college selection is simply and concisely given and can be found on their site’s home page, about page, admission & aid page, and finally university life page. One example of how they used purpose to encourage students to enroll at MNSU is when they claimed, “We believe that a diverse campus is critical in order for our students…. productive members of a global society.”(MNSU “Home”) Everyone knows that diversity is an important component in college selection, and they are informing students that their institution has an inclusive diversity that provides equality in education and equal chances to all people from diverse groups. They have also mentioned that they have various diversity events as well as centers such as multicultural, women, LGBTQ, and several others. They are committed to promoting diversity and moving forward with implementing this strategic priority at all levels of the university. This is a clear example of how they employed purpose understanding that diversity plays a vital role in college selection, therefore they notified readers and students that they can be preferred since they have a diverse campus and promotes diversity as much as possible.

Minnesota State Mankato values international students’ cultural contributions to their school and community and is a well-known international student recruiter. According to their admission and aid website, “All new undergraduate students are immediately given the International Maverick Scholarship”(MNSU “Admission & Aid”). This scholarship covers nearly half of the student tuition cost and significantly reduces financial expenses for international students. Knowing that financial aid is vital to foreign students, they have used purpose in the quotation above to entice international students to attend their university and win the scholarship so that they may reduce their financial expenditures and overall cost. The quotation above is a perfect example of how they used purpose using the  international maverick scholarship to all accepted students to lure international students.

On their website’s program page, they stated, “We offer more than 130 undergraduate majors and over 75 graduate majors to feed your big ideas,” which is a perfect example of how they have imagined ideal readers – they have imagined students who have big ideas but haven’t decided what major to study would be misled by this statement because they have provided them with more than enough options to choose from. (MNSU “Programs”).Furthermore, on their admissions and aid page, they stated, “All new undergraduate students are immediately given the International Maverick Scholarship,” implying that international students who are required to pay out state tuitions and have too many expenses would be an ideal reader and of this quotation and would be deceived into joining their institution because it will reduce the cost, they have to spend to get their intended degree.(MNSU “Admission & Aid” ). Despite the fact that there are several more areas on the university’s website where various tactics were utilized, owing to constraints, the examples and explanations provided above must provide you with a quick overview of the university’s website as a whole.

Response

I’m going to be a little biased here since, by luck, I got the opportunity to see the entire institution the week before spring break, and it was fantastic. Furthermore, based on what I have learned and seen on their website; I would certainly attend this university. My first reason is that it is so diverse, and variety provides students with other worldviews to explore and participate with. I’d also like to learn in a diverse environment where I can share information and expertise with folks from all around the world. It also encourages my own development, which I cherish the most, and excites me to get better at interacting with individuals from varied backgrounds. Aside from its diversity, the second factor that drew me to MNSU is the variety of majors available in various fields. One surprising detail I encountered when applying to Georgia State University was that they do not offer a bachelor’s degree in engineering, which is unexpected given that engineering is not on the list of 250 programs. Finally, the campus was beautiful; it has a lot of space and also some home green and has water fountains everywhere, recreational facilities, several multicultural centers, vast sectioned dorms but also a snowy weather, or I can completely say that Mankato is built around the campus; it is the most essential element. The campus is also surrounded by a number of comfy off-campus housing options that are managed in some form by the university. For sure, I would go there if it came to GA. I was delighted to conduct research on MNSU and, by chance, to visit the campus and write a brief overview.

Paragon International University

Paragon International University “postGRADUATE PROSPECTUS”

Summary

Paragon International University is a private nonprofit University founded, May 18, 2010, in Phenom Penn, Cambodia. It has been accredited by the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia and the Royal government of Cambodia, which has led it to be a very selective institution. The young university perfect for students in Cambodia that care about their education, their community, and want a successful career in engineering, business, or agriculture.

Analysis

The Paragon International University uses Imagining Ideal Readers and the Rhetorical style Ethos strategies. The purpose of the Universities website was to interest students from Cambodia and around the world to go to their university. They have many success stories posted on their website from former and current students that go to the university to inspire possible students to come to their university. PIU has many programs and resources available to students. The University also states that one of their core values is community service. The Universities lectures are all typically professors that have a PHD or at least have a master’s degree and teaching experience from around the world. This shows that the University is looking for readers that will be not only interested in their higher education and career path but also care to be active in the Cambodian community.

The Paragon International University reads they, “Provide capacity building for students in all education and training programs to equip them with entrepreneurship and innovation skills, inquiry-based learning, cross-cultural competence, employability skills and a sense of social responsibility” (PIU “About mission”). This quote supports Imagining Ideal Readers, the University is looking for students that are looking to take advantage of their career services and programs. The Institution also collaborates with universities around the world to get their students the best education their students can get. On the website it also reads “Engage partners outside of traditional university borders to promote economic development and to make a positive impact in Cambodia and the region through collaborative projects” (PIU “About goals”). In case a student was wondering on the credentials of the professors, PIU states on their “Why Paragon University?” page “Lecturers are qualified and experienced professors who received their degrees from reputable universities around the globe. They typically have a Ph.D. in their field or at least a master’s degree with teaching/professional experience. Paragon.U boasts its body of diverse faculty members and staff over 10 different nationalities from America, Europe, and Asia.” (PIU “Why Paragon University?”), so a student can be confident they are being taught by some of the best professors in the world. This is a Imagining Ideal Readers strategy. Another quote that supports a Imagining Ideal Readers strategy is being used is, “The Office of Student Services (OSS) caters to those who further the mission and curriculum of Paragon International University. This is accomplished with academic counseling, support, and discipline to promote an ethos of intellectual freedom based on mutual respect, integrity, and solid expectations of manifold achievement—academic, spiritual, as well as professional.” (PIU “Student Services”). The quote shows that the Institution has programs that will not only help the students academically but also guide students and give them a sense of community. This caters to students that would be interested in these programs.

Paragon International University on their about page say, “Paragon International University strives to become a leading private higher education provider in Cambodia in terms of quality of teaching, research, and community services.” (PIU “About vision”). This is an Imagining Ideal Readers and Ethos strategy. PIU is interested in students that want to be involved in their quality of teaching and students that are interested in providing for the Cambodian community. Also the PIU website it says “Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students working together with an adult advisor within the framework of a constitution or bylaws to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage student, faculty and community relations.” (PIU “Student Services”). This supports the Rhetoric Style Ethos and Imagining Ideal Readers. This is because the University shows the students that they care about the students voices and supports students who want to be leaders.

Paragon International University “CSR Charity Trip” 2019-2020

Response

Would I personally go to this college? Most definitely. The royal accredited University collaborates with universities around the world. In the PIU program, after two years of college at the Khmer campus you can transfer to any of the partnered Universities. Whether it’s for higher education or internship programs. All the professors either have a PHD or master’s degree and teaching experience so I’d know I’d be receiving a good education.

Another reason I’d like to go to Paragon is because they are active in the community. Whether it’s taking care of it by giving food the less fortunate or being in touch with the Cambodian culture. Students can request to make their own clubs, participate in a variety of sports, or be tutored by their peers. They have many programs to make all students feel welcomed and create a community that the students can feel comfortable in.

Paragon International also has many resources to students such as housing, local transportation, meal plans, books and school supplies, a cell phone plan, and laundry cleaning. This is extremely useful in Cambodia since it’s a third world country and people may not have access to various necessities. The University provides academic support, a career center, information about alumni affairs, and student club and cultural activities.

                                              Middle Georgia State University

Summary:

Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is a public, nonprofit university located in Macon, Georgia. From what is shown on their website, MGA is a university that cares about the well-being and needs of their students. They are portrayed as a friendly, nondiscriminatory university that wants students that are community-driven, have leadership skills, and are very responsible. They also want students that align with their four core values: stewardship, engagement, adaptability, and learning. The analytical and rhetorical strategies, tone and imagining ideal readers can be used to further explain the ideal student that MGA wants.

Analysis:

The tone of MGA’s website is optimistic and encouraging. And their use of uplifting words and phrases gives the reader a sense of hope, inspiration, and safety. This is one of the many reasons why students are drawn to MGA. Many times, on their website they have shown that their faculty and staff are there to help students succeed, not only during their time at MGA, but also after they have graduated. Quoted from their Academic page, it states, “At Middle Georgia State University we’re committed to providing educational opportunities to fuel your dreams” (MGA, Academics). This is one of many quotes that have an optimistic and encouraging tone. This quote shows readers that MGA is right for them because they will provide their students with all opportunities needed to succeed. The optimistic tone gives students hope and a reason to believe that their success will be guaranteed if they choose MGA. And the encouraging tone gives students a feel of inspiration and safety because they are inspired to go to MGA to succeed and feel safe knowing that this university will do anything to help them reach success.

From their Academics page, it states, “United, we push the boundaries of possibility” (MGA, Academics). The tone of this quote is extremely optimistic and encouraging. It is optimistic because it tells students that at MGA anything is possible. They want their students to know that with help from them and their community they will be able to achieve their goals. And this quote is encouraging because it encourages students to break past the wall of possibility and conquer things that are deemed impossible. MGA wants their students to be able to explore the world of impossibility and make it possible.

The large rhetorical strategy that can be used to describe MGA’s ideal student is imagining ideal readers. Middle Georgia State University wants students that are community-driven, are leaders, are responsible, align with their 4 core values, are positive, and are goal oriented. This means that their ideal reader is someone who has these characteristics. To be community-driven at MGA means to help “enhance the region through professional leadership, innovative partnership and community engagement” (MGA, About MGA). What this means is they want people whose goal is not only to go to their school to further their education, but people who are willing to help engage in their community and make it better. Therefore, they also want people that are leaders, responsible, goal oriented, and positive. They want leaders because they want people that are not afraid to step up and take action, whether that is at school, in their community, or anywhere. Being responsible ties with being a leader. MGA wants their leaders to know when to be responsible for something or when to interfere and help out. This also means the leader needs to be goal oriented and positive. The leader needs to know what goals to accomplish first before trying to accomplish all goals, and they need to have a positive attitude towards others and their community.

The last characteristic of MGA’s ideal student is someone that aligns with their four core values: stewardship, engagement, adaptability, and learning. To MGA stewardship means “Reminding us of our moral and public commitment to the people we serve on and off campus” (MGA, About MGA). To MGA this means always remembering the reasons why they help their communities and use their power and resources to make them better. They want students to always engage in the communities around them and help lead them to greatness. Next is engagement, MGA’s definition of engagement is “Recognizing that learning is a social activity and that we cannot fulfill our mission of public higher education without collaborating with those on our campuses and outside our doors in our communities” (MGA, About MGA). Engagement to MGA means not only working and learning indoors but participating in community activities. Engaging in their communities can teach students valuable lessons, like leadership and teamwork and help students build lasting relationships with others in their communities. The third value of MGA’s four core values is adaptability. At MGA, adaptability means, “a necessary hallmark of progress and success, requiring us to lead and manage- not be simply affected by it” (MGA, About MGA). What this means is being prepared to handle situations that affect your life negatively or positively and growing and learning from them. The last core value is learning. Learning to them is “expanding and changing fields of knowledge and grow professionally” (MGA, About MGA). This relates to MGA’s ideal reader because they want students that are willing to extend their knowledge and use it to develop their mindset and help them proceed forward. They want their students to be able to use their knowledge to assist their communities, help others, and succeed.

Overall, MGA wants students that have the same mentality as they do. They want students to know how to take opportunities given to them and make it greater. They also want students that trust that MGA will help them grow into the best versions of themselves. Lastly, MGA wants students that will help build better communities and break out of the box of possibilities to find a world of impossibilities that can be conquered.

Response:

When I first took a glimpse at MGA’s website, I believed that I wasn’t a good fit for their school, but after researching them I believe that I might consider going there. It has most things that I am looking for in a university: it is an in-state college, the student population is in a good range for me, their tuition and fees are not too hefty, and the school overall seems welcoming. Since MGA’s focus is aviation, I didn’t see myself going to their school but as I looked over their website, I found that they have many courses and academic programs that are unrelated to aviation. Aviation is a good career to go into, but I don’t think it’s for me. Overall, Middle Georgia State University is a good school, they are friendly, support their students, are very welcoming, and have many qualities I want in a college. They’re definitely a college that I am willing to apply for.

Toccoa Falls College

ENGL 1102

Toccoa Falls College

Summary:

Toccoa Falls College is an institution and a dream come true for co-founders Richard and Evelyn Forrest. Dr. Richard A. Toccoa Falls College is a private, nonprofit, Christian liberal arts institution located in the foothills of beautiful northeast Georgia. The college’s ideal prospective student is students who are Christians and interesting in becoming ministries. The website uses the APATSARC strategy Audience along with the large rhetorical strategy imagining ideal readers.

Analysis:

In Toccoa Falls College website they use the large rhetorical strategy of imagining the ideal reader and the rhetorical style ethos and pathos to persuade the reader. Toccoa falls college was written to make a promise to the future student “The college functions under a Board of Trustees that set policy and an administration and faculty that implements it.” (Our story), which leads the audience to trust them and come to their college. TCF uses imagining an ideal reader as a rhetorical strategy to get audiences who are Christian. the target audience is those interested in becoming ministers.

They also target students “who are fresh out of high school, coming back after raising a family or looking for a way to boost their career” (Admissions). According to the website, it says “Center on Christ. Change the world.”  (Admissions page) they give every student a chance no matter what stage in life you are in. This will make a lot of students come to their college. According to Toccoa falls college website page called “Camp life” they want their student to be comfortable and feel at home and is a place where boredom is not an option. This allowed students to stay on campus and be comfortable and safe. The school makes sure that all their students are feeling welcoming and feeling like this is home to them.

Another strategy the website uses is the Audience. The website is called mostly Christian students who are committed to Christ and strive for academic success in order to prepare to devote their lives to full-time Christian ministry or service through secular work. The website included programs that recognized them. To let students, know why they should attend TFC and a lot of programs recognize them. on the page called “Student Affairs,” they want students to become involved and make a positive difference in the world. Target students who are willing to make a change in the world and who have strong beliefs.

Last but not least the website uses to persuade students but showing them the beautiful place of the school. When you get to the TFC home page the first things you see is the beautiful waterfall. By having that it gets students who love nature or who love spending time outdoor attention which will make them look into their college. They also show students that they have online, on campus, and they have dual enrollment students, by showing that it will get students whose doesn’t like in-person class attention because not everyone like taking a class in person some good at online, and some are good at face-to-face class.

Response:

After learning about Toccoa Falls College, I would go to TFC because it grabs my attention about the campus and the surroundings of the campus. Also, they make sure that every student feels safe and feels home to them which makes me think that this would be perfect for me since I don’t like being away from home. But money is a problem. Also, it’s a bit far and I don’t like being away far home. But what interests me is that is a diverse place and it makes sure that students feel comfortable and feel home to them. Toccoa Falls College is surrounded by nature and is not a big campus which I like that interesting me in going there because I don’t like going to school that is big, I like school that is small so I get to know people easier. When I was looking through the TFC website I can see that the school is religious and they care about their community and they want to change the world into a better place. That is what grab my attention the most because ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted a change this world into a better place and become a better follower of God. If money wasn’t an issue I would definitely go there because just by learning about the school I’m sure is a great college for students like me who don’t like big campus, who love the outdoor and nature, and who is also a follower of God. If the campus is close to where I live, I would go there because TCF is a great place if you are interested in becoming ministers or becoming close to God and learning more about him.  while growing up I always want to become a youth minister and learn more about God so Toccoa falls college would be a great school for me. Also, Toccoa Falls college was my backup college when I apply for college. I have looked at this college while I was in high school. the school sport and the campus grab my attention and also I know that is a Christian college makes me even want to go more but it was far so I didn’t apply for it. if the campus is close to where I live yes I would definitely go there.

Analysis of Randolph college

Summary

Randolph College is a small private liberal arts institution located in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was founded as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (R-MWC) in 1891 by William Waugh Smith. The institution has a large selection of 29 undergraduate and graduate degree programs (43 minors) for students to choose from.  Students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via many clubs and organizations. The college looks for students who want to take advantage of the small class size and most accessible professor.

Analysis

The two strategies that the website includes are Structure and Imagining Ideal Readers. Imagining ideal readers is a strategy in which the author assumes which reader mostly affected the writer’s work and gives the right context or how is the author trying to reach the students (E. Losh, J. Alexander,1). From their website, they are trying to reach the student by using 3 main ways which are their news page, home page navigation, and the small videos. The news page tries to tell the audience which are the student who wants to join Randolph about what’s going on the campus. Like what is new, who is doing what, and different kinds of information.

For the second one, you will see a heading such as Academics, Student Life, Admission, and About Us. These tabs will give information for current and prospective students. The last is the video in which a combination of faculty and student was asked about the college. Their experience and what really the environment of the college is about. For the Randolph college website, the ideal readers are the student who wants to join in.

Randolph college help student to be original meaning looking at students individually to what their passion and interest are. You can find this passion by engaging in different clubs and school organizations. Randolph College will help them with hands-on experience to help them decide on what career plan they want to achieve. Students can take advantage of the small class size.

“Randolph prepares you for more than just making a living. Randolph prepares you for life” (Randolph, “About”). The college website is telling us that the college will set us for life not just living after graduating. To explicit this more the college understands the road between where you begin and where you end is not always straightforward. That’s why we give you the tools to discover and achieve your goals.  The college network is among the strongest in the nation which provides internships and opportunities that will direct you to your future. Randolph college being a small institution gives you the freedom to explore the opportunity out there and pursue it.

The other strategy that the website uses is its structure. The structure is how the piece of writing is arranged. Randolph college website is an informational article that describes and gives details on a topic to inform the reader. The college website has six different sections which are About, Admission, Academics, Student Life, and outcome. In the about sections, you will find general information’s about the ranking, how many different academic programs the college gives and how many students organization the campus has. For the admission part, it will give you information on the criteria for the admission and the cost (including financial aid).

“Our innovative TAKE2 curricular model is designed to help you get the most from your college experience” (Randolph, “Academics”). It means that instead of taking 4 or more classes students can take 2 classes. That way students can spend a good amount of time studying the subject deeply. It also has time to spend on other extracurricular activities The student life section will let the students know about the campus social life different clubs and student organizations.

It will also tell how the campus location is green and comfortable camping and hiking. For the fifth section, the website uses different photos and videos of sports activities. These photos are basketball and lacrosse we can tell that the school is famous for those two activities. The last section is about the outcome is telling the student how completing your education in Randolph benefits you. The website tries to show different successful students from Randolph and how it benefited them for their success

Response

Would I accept an offer to attend Randolph college? My answer would be yes. The reason is that I want to explore and take advantage of the different clubs that Randolph college provides. I have read from their college website that the faculty members will help you decide what path to follow and help you by encouraging you to be involved in different clubs. I also like the small class size and how the university is ranked among the top approachable professor. I liked it because I can ask my professor a question easily and ask for advice for my career.

The second reason is because of its location the location is not far away from the major city. The campus is also located with tasty restaurants, clubs, movie theaters, and late-night hangouts. The environment in Randolph is also green which I liked the most and it is comfortable for hiking because of the blue ridge mountains.

The third reason is that the college offers a lot of internships and will train you to be able to get into the workforce accurately.

“Colorado state University” Summary/Analysis/ Response (SAR) Paper

Summary

Colorado State University is a research college located in Fort Collins Colorado. This is a very technical institution college that encourages students to be social and get involved with other curricular activities. They list ‘’passions” are available to ” explore” this program, it spotlights athletics programs like track and field, basketball, and softball. They offer career choices or in their words “passions’ ‘ like agricultural science, business, engineering. this school because it focuses on the social part of college that can help you in your future career.

Analysis

Colorado State University is a great example of the rhetorical strategies of Audience and Imaging the ideal reader. Colorado state does a great job on persuading the type of students they want at their school and what a college should look like. When students are applying for colleges, they want something that provides them with what they need to start their career path and what their four-year plan should consist of while staying at Colorado State University. Their target audience would be students who are very social and willing to participate in school activities and have a plan on what their life will be like when being accepted into Colorado State University.

The target audience which are transfers and undergrad students are looking for a school that provides them with technical science, and business careers. According to the Colorado state university website it says “exploring Colorado” (CSU, Home page ). This gives students a chance to research their passions and what students are looking for to see if this school and what it offers is the best pick for. According to the Colorado state website there’s an icon titled “Engagements” (CSU, Engagements). They also allow you to look up certain clubs and programs that help the college and outside community develop social skills that help the environment. This allows students to participate in activities that involve school to help the environment, and to get the community involved.

Colorado State University does an excellent job using the rhetorical strategy Imaging the Ideal Reader by grabbing the student’s attention when opening the website. According to Colorado State university they show students getting involved in these curricular activities and other partakes in the student life that shows how the school functions (CSU, Homepage). This demonstrates what audience they persuade that want to apply for their college. According to Colorado State University in the “Academics” icon they have where you can do more research on a certain passion you may have or that can be like what a student may be looking for in their career choice (CSU, Academics).  When Students are looking for a career, they are looking for they want to know what exactly they are going to be studying, in this case if a student wants to know more about what they’re going to be learning. That’s why it’s great that Colorado State provides that type of research for students, so they’ll know what they’ll be studying for the next four years of their career.

Colorado State attracts its students more on the social side of college because at times students are going to need that social aspect in college. According to Colorado State University, they have an athletics program where they show the different sports, spirit weeks, times, and dates for the games, and some of the highlights from certain sports teams to show their achievements they’ve accomplished (CSU, Athletics). Majority of the students that want to attend colleges look for schools who have an athletics program, so that students can be involved with their school more often. Since this college focuses on the environment and how to help the community more, they want people to be involved in these activities. According to Colorado state university they have community outreaches to help out by taking care of the environment in the community, and learning new things that can help those students who are developing their career or even beginning their career ( CSU, Economics and community outreach).these outreaches were so that students could help out the community, but also the community could help them in return by holding fundraisers for certain clubs that consist or a student’s career choice or curricular activities.

When students are looking for schools, they want a university that will accommodate their needs and services to what this school has to offer. Students at Colorado State University can benefit off the thorough research that they allow students to access when looking for their “passion”. Knowing there are colleges that just let you pick a career without knowing what students are studying. Luckly Colorado state wants students to keep “Charging Forward”.

Response

I would consider going to Colorado state university because this college would allow me to be a more social college student. By encouraging me to get involved with my school and to become more social instead of staying to myself. During our free writing professor Weaver asked us what other colleges we would have gone to besides Georgia state university and my response was Southern University and Hbcu located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana because of the social events for business students and African American like myself to connect with others that would benefit my career choice. Because I feel like when it comes to college that will best suit me, I want to find as much diversity and similarities and possible to get different takes on the different aspects of other people’s lives.

I like the fact that they call their careers “passions “because whatever I want to pursue in my life or whatever I’m gifted in that is a passion, what I initially have an equipped love for. A lot of colleges were more strictly focused on your career and felt like an in and out process to just get what you came for and go. When in my college experience I prefer to have a more social aspect of it because I’m more of a social person that doesn’t want to be kept from any opportunity that some colleges may not have for me, even though the goal is to be connected as much as possible

SAR Project Process on Carnegie Mellon University

Summary:

Carnegie Mellon University is a private, non-profit university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This institution was founded in the 1900 by Andrew Carnegie. This school creates a learning environment where technology and industrial research are one of the biggest and known pathways. Carnegie Mellon University has a reputation for empowering students to be their best selves and to feel comfortable. The University has extremely high standards and upholds them just as strictly as any Ivy League school. Carnegie Mellon University website uses the structure APATSARC strategy and inhabiting/engaging social roles for their large rhetorical strategy to capture a selective audience.

Analysis:

Capturing a student’s attention into considering Carnegie Mellon University is the reason why the website is structured in a certain aspect. The APATSARC strategy that Carnegie Mellon University heavily engages in is structure. The structure of this website is what captures a student’s idea of the school. On the landing page is where a student determines whether the school is something they would consider. Specifically this school was very smart in how they structured their website. As soon as you hit the landing page you see various students engaging in different activities. It sets the tone that this institution engages with various activities to keep students entertained and knowledgeable. CMU communicates on their website that they are indeed there for scholars to help reach them to their aspirations. According to Carnegie Mellon University it states,”In the classroom, around the dinner table, on the playing fields or on stage, students pursue their curiosities, passions and aspirations.”(cmu.edu, student-experience)Which is explicitly shown throughout the entire website for CMU.

Being a research university,  representation of the technological/innovative pathways are extremely important. According to the U.S News on the Carnegie Mellon website, Carnegie Mellon University ranks #1 in undergraduate information and technology management also in– undergraduate computer science. By using data and technology Carnegie Mellon University shows us how it can benefit the knowledge of the world we live in. Reaching that point requires shedding light to an organized section on the website for the research aspect of this university. Which there are. There are numerous pictures showing students and faculty engaging in technological equipment to further research. An example of  structure of this research page is how at the bottom of the page it shows multiple news articles successes and informative information regarding faculty and staff. CMU demonstrates that students have the opportunity to expand their research at other locations. In the research aspect of this website it states, “CMU also performs restricted research at our world-renowned National Robotics Engineering Center and classified research at our Software Engineering Institute.”(cmu.edu, research) The presence of these two research centers attracts students who want to expand their research to other high standard communities. Which again is how structure can lure in a specific audience.

Adapting to a new environment as a freshman in college is quite difficult for certain individuals. Which CMU understood and actively did something about. As stated previously the landing page is very important to a student. On the CMU landing page it allows us to see a community that actively gets together for certain events. Different cultures gather around celebrating traditional activities to enlighten others. Not only limiting to the cultural/race tragedies going on in the world we live in today. Carnegie Mellon University acknowledges the racial prospects of our society. Listed on the diversity page of the CMU website it states,”CMU has been examining our role in the fight to confront racism, and promote social justice, inclusion and economic empowerment. Now more than ever, we must work together as a community to bring diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) into greater focus across Carnegie Mellon.” (cmu.edu, diversity) By acknowledging the racial roles of our society CMU allows black and POC( people of color) students to freely engage with the community with the support of Carnegie Mellon University support. Being comfortable in your learning environment is an extremely important aspect you need to succeed—which CMU is actively inhabiting for all its students.

Carnegie Mellon University wants to attract very diverse, outgoing people. People who are innovative and typically want to expand their technology aspects even farther. Students that participate in their classes but also participate and engage in afterschool on campus activities. These things are the very things that make a student stand out to the CMU faculty and community.

Response:

After reading and taking in the concepts of this college, I personally would not attend this college.  Even if money or location did not play a factor in my life, CMU still wouldn’t be a choice that I would consider. Not because of anything with the community of the school but merely the main pathways. Carnegie Mellon University is known for its research and technological aspects. Which clashes with the pathway I want to take to advance my future. I plan on obtaining my doctorate in physical therapy and I would prefer to go to a college where the major I am going into is the main pathway of the school. A good and effectable education is one of my values. Being able to grow my desired dream into a successful career, holds high value to me. Since I am interested in attending a school with a strong medical program, that is where I should attend. If I had a future in computer science or engineering I highly believe then I would want to attend Carnegie Mellon University. This university is excellent for computer science/ technological majors. Although I admire the community and the environment that CMU creates I do not believe it is the best place for me to grow educationally.
