Response to Sean Michael Morris
Hello Mr. Morris,
I hope you are doing well and remaining safe from this ongoing crisis that the world is currently facing. After reading your response to this unexpected situation, I could not agree more with your beliefs on how to handle this sudden occurrence and the potential solutions many students can try to better their current status. While it would have been ideal for many people to continue school without any difficulties, this idea would have been unrealistic and merely a dream that cannot be brought to reality. As you have previously stated in your “Pivot to Online: A Student Guide,” many students and people alike are facing joint issues like having a shortage of food, the inability to access the internet, and do not have the financial support to remain safe. While everyone is enduring this crisis together and suffering losses like unemployment or do not have the budget to afford medical costs, students have also been greatly affected. Having an older sibling who attends a university as well; there are times I would overhear her conversations with her friends, saying that they do not know what to do as they are international students. Since their homes are not in the United States, many of them were left with few choices but to purchase air tickets and fly home, unable to move away from campus properly. Lacking the resources and necessary help, many students have lost their opportunities in creating a better future for themselves, causing much anxiety and stress.
However, despite the unforeseen events that have happened, I believe it is beneficial and healthy for many people to embody a positive mindset that will support them throughout these dire moments. In hopes of reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, it would be ideal for many people to remain safe within their homes. As for the transfer to online classes, I could not agree more with your opinions that students and teachers alike will have to stay flexible with one another. It is important to remain strong and keep in touch with other people as there are many alternatives to staying on track with course materials or missed lectures. After reading your writing, I have come to realize how similar this topic is to the discussion I have had in class. Because society is broad and filled with various people, many of them have already been in dire situations before the transfer to online schooling. This moment is a clear representation of some of the obstacles people face that hinder their growth in achieving success. Although we cannot change what has happened, this article has allowed me to see the positive aspects of life and to understand the difficulties students and professors suffer alike.
