I believe Truism is a way to say something which is very true that will also make you think about the saying to really understand what it’s trying to explain. After reading about Jenny Holzer, I learned that she was one of the best known artists to use truism in 1977-79 and her sayings are still displayed all over the world today. She went from writing her thoughts and ideas of her sayings on random sheets of papers and then began placing her work on large displays in the 1980’s which was big in Time Square, New York. Holzer’s truism’s spoke about society, life, oppression and many other subjects that aren’t spoken about as much as they should.
My truism comes from basically what I’ve realized about this crazy thing called life. There’s going to be times of pain, which also includes hurt, heartbreaks, bad decisions, disappointments, losses or however someone may take pain. I feel like it’s all about how you perceive the pain that your feeling and what you decide to do with it. If your determined, you can turn the pain that your feeling and use that anger and turn it in to power in making yourself better and apply that energy to working on yourself making changes in your life to prevent yourself from feeling that same pain again. The relationships from my past that didn’t last, the jobs that I lost, the friends and family that I lost, bad experiences and mishaps were all painful but I used that energy, instead of getting depressed, to better myself and have a different approach for every aspect. Pain can be a very positive thing if you let it.
I like how you explained this – at first I thought you were going to take this in another direction but I feel that your exploration of what led you to choose this as your personal truism is quite meaningful. Good job.
I agree with your truism to me if you never experienced pain how would ever be able know what it is to feel happy. When you are hurt use it your advantage and use it to drive forward to the next thing.
That is a very good approach to life in general. Just like how you perceive pain, anything can be thought of as positive and turned into something good instead of a negative.
I think your truism is true for many people. It is honest and personal. It is also very good advice.
Life is definitely crazy, but we learn to get through it and move on to bigger and better things. We have all felt the pain of different things in our lives. Pain is also something you can live and learn from, so sometimes it is not always a bad thing! Loved how you explained this!
