Our Art Pathways

Associate of Science in Art (A.S. in Art). This degree is intended as a studio foundations preparation with required coursework in four studio foundation courses and four survey-level art history courses. This degree is identical to the coursework offered at the GSU Welch School of Art and Design in the Studio Foundation Program. It is offered with the intent that students will transition to the GSU Welch School of Art and Design campus and major in studio art. This may also lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio with a concentration in one of the following areas: Textiles, Drawing/Painting/Printmaking, Three-Dimensional Art Sculpture, Three-Dimensional Art Ceramics, Photography, Graphic Design, Interior Design. It may also lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education. Photography, Graphic Design and Interior Design require transition to the main campus after 30 credits in order to achieve the degree in 4 years.

Associate of Arts in Art (A.A. in Art). The A.A. in Art track is a liberal arts approach to the undergraduate degree that does not require a studio concentration. Students are required to take a world language, art history, and three or more foundation studio courses. The A.A. in Art has two tracks: Art History and Art. Both tracks align with the coursework students take in the first two years of the Bachelor of Arts programs at GSU WSAD, and leads to one of the following two B.A. tracks at the WSAD campus:

a.    The Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Art History

b.    The Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Studio Art (this track is being phased out)
