Dekalb Symphony Orchestra’s Annual Children’s Concert! – Jan 22

Featuring Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf

Narrated by WSB-TV’s Nicole Carr!

Will also feature young dancers from the Decatur School of Ballet.

This is a family favorite for children of all ages to come and enjoy.  It is a great opportunity for parents and grandparents to introduce their children and grandchildren to live classical, orchestral music.

Also included in the program will be music from Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Arlen’s Over The Rainbow, Holst’s Jupiter, and Sousa’s The Stars And Stripes Forever.

Peter and the Wolf tells the story of Peter and his adventures in the meadow near his home.  Other characters in the story include Peter’s grandfather, a bird, a duck, a cat, a hungry wolf, and hunters.  Each character is represented by their own tune played by certain instruments of the orchestra.  Through the story Peter learns how to cope with life’s challenges and dangers by using courage, creativity, and leadership.  He also discovers in the process the true meaning of caring, friendship, and respect.
