Going into this course I did not really know what to expect. I am not an expert with technology, so how was I expected to create a blog? That was my biggest concern. The most I do on the internet is upload a picture to social media and that is all. I had seen blogs before but I had never thought about creating one myself. However, it is not as hard as it seems. Once you learn how to create a post and add images the rest is a breeze.
This course is definitely not like any other English class. I had never once been in an English class where I did not have to write one essay. It was definitely different because I am use to writing about 5 essays in MLA style and then being done with the course. Also the point system was very different from a regular grading scale. Instead of getting a solid grade, you accumulate points over the course and at the end the amount of points you earned determine the letter grade you will get. The way you keep track of the points you have to far is through a google doc. A google doc is specifically designed for each student; and there they can see the amount of points they have so far, the amount of points they were awarded for their work, and feedback of how to improve. You can also write any questions or comments on the google doc that you want.
I loved this course because it was like an on going process. Writing a blog post is way different from writing an essay. Writing a blog post is not as easy as many would think, because it is much more than just writing a paragraph and posting it. When composing a blog post you have to think about the format, the images that are going to be incorporated, and most importantly the AUDIENCE. Since a blog post is available to anyone on the internet you have to be aware that you are not just writing it for your professor but for whoever may wander upon it.
When you change the medium you use, you will be amazed of how much your writing can change. I definitely think I am a much stronger writer now because I was able to develop my writing through a different format. This class was also helpful because I was not just expected to write an essay on a topic that was given to me, I wrote about a topic that I chose and before I even wrote the final post I was able construct additional post as annotated bibs that later helped me when writing my final post. So constructing a final post is more like an ongoing process.
I would definitely recommend this class to everyone because it is way different than any other English class, and they will definitely learn how to write differently. I am positive that they will fall in love with writing.
