All About Me

Makia Thomas is passionate about all “things” education and advocacy.  She currently serves as an Assistant Project Director with Georgia State University’s Best Practices Training team.  The team develops and facilitates professional development sessions for Pre-K teachers. Our goal is to ensure that teachers are utilizing meaningful, relevant, and research-based strategies with the children in their classrooms. Most days you can find her working with some of her favorite people…STUDENTS and EDUCATORS in various cities around Georgia.

As a first-generation college graduate, former classroom teacher and school administrator, it has always been essential for her to display courage, compassion, and integrity in every decision, conversation, and lesson.   It is so easy to become caught up in self, but being mindful of what’s best and right for others is so important.  James Baldwin once said, “The obligation of anyone who thinks of himself [herself] as responsible is to examine society and try to change it and to fight it – at no matter what risk.  This is the only hope society has.  This is the only way societies change.” Professionally, her experiences have truly shaped her into the educator she has become.  Makia was honored to become a campus administrator before the age of 30, which was a major professional accomplishment.  She can’t see herself working in any other profession because there is still so much work to be done.

Since work-life balance is all the rage, Makia enjoys traveling with her husband, family, and friends.  She is a “foodie” and loves to visit trendy restaurants around the country.  She doesn’t usually like to shop but can certainly get lost in home décor stores, thanks to HGTV.  If you want to learn more about Makia’s adventures, click here.
