Group work: Election Day

Today, my group and I met to work on our project some more. I worked on finalizing my hire form by adding additional questions. I also worked on the parameters of the new parent letters, as I know have learned they have to be a certain length (one and a half page) to meet Georgia standards. While I think this is silly, I am going to work with Grace to add more info.

My group worked on their respective parts, like finishing the mission statement, adding dates to the calendar of events, and adding more tweets to the account.

In the end we all did a prayer circle to ward off the evil thought of Trump becoming president.

Midterm Reflection

The middle of the semester is upon us, and I must confess I am a little disappointed in myself. My midterm conference with Dr. Wharton really provided me insight on how to improve my grade.

Personally I think I could improve on setting deadlines for myself, with dates for drafts and class prep due. I also want to make sure I have effective communication with my group members to make sure our project is cohesive.

I think I could also improve on my item management and make time to work on my client’s work.

Speaking of class prep, I feel like my grade has suffered as a result of not doing it. I will mark it as homework in my calendar from now on to make sure I take it seriously and get it done.

Deliverable: I want to make sure that I get at least 80% of the work done that was shown in my pitch presentation. I want to make sure I get the following

  • New Staff Hire Application (Google Form)
  • Infograph printed out and PDF for adverting
  • New Parent and Staff Letters
  • Returning Parent and Staff Letters
  • *Photography for the website
  • *Foam Infograph to take to fairs

As of now, my grade in the class is not what I want it to be. I plan to try to go to office hours (when I’m free, which is rare, to be honest) to get extra points and get clarity. As I want to be a technical writer, I wish to get nothing less than a B in the class.

Meeting with Dr. Wharton

Today, I met with Dr. Wharton for our midterm check-in. We discussed my grade in the class, and I was not surprised to know my points were lacking due to not completing class prep. I plan to set reminders to do such items in order to get the sufficient grade I need.

In addition, I loved that we talked about how I can further my technical writing experience with internships. Wharton provided helpful insight into getting experience, and how that would be great if I wanted a career in content management.

Productive Day With Justine

Today, since class was canceled, Justine and I met up at the library to get some work done. We discussed our deliverable, taking in thoughts of cost, time, and effort into the process. We are still finalizing what will be our deliverable.

In addition, we also worked on our reading annotations due tomorrow! It  helps because it gives us time to think more about what is being said, reflect, and then come back again with our thoughts on it.
