Last week, Nicole Knox and Heather Hussey-Coker shared some useful information and preliminary historical research with our class. They have kindly shared their presentation about the history of the Atlanta BeltLine with us. It is attached here for your reviewing pleasure.  01-20-2015 GSU Digital History Class

I have also pulled some relevant research resource links from the presentation for ease of access:

Sanborn Fire Insurance maps (http://dig.galileo.usg.edu/sanborn/)

Planning Atlanta map overlay (http://digitalcollections.library.gsu.edu/maps/?overlay=asa000L_aerial_mosaic)

Atlanta BeltLine Interactive Map (http//beltline.org/explore/maps)

National Register of Historic Places (http://www.nps.gov/nr/research/)

Historic Streetcar Systems in Georgia (http://georgiastreetcars.org/)

All of these resources will come in handy as we develop the Atlanta Rail Corridor Archive project.

Finally, I wanted to offer a link to the BeltLine’s affordable housing page in order to share an alternative perspective on the gentrification question raised by Alexander Sayf Cummings on On Second Thought Radio last week. http://beltline.org/programs/affordable-housing/ According to Nicole Knox, “the BeltLine, Inc. team is also hard at work on a plan for a proactive approach to housing and economic development on the Atlanta BeltLine.”
