SB 350 Home

The 152nd session of the Georgia General Assembly convened on January 13, 2014. The General Assembly is comprised of 180 House members and 56 Senate members from across the state. Republicans hold the majority in the Georgia General Assembly as well as the Office of the Governor. This year’s session adjourned on March 20, 2014 (Georgia General Assembly, 2014).

Senate Bill 350 was submitted by Senator Renee Unterman of District 45 on February 3, 2014 and was formally introduced in the Senate on February 4, 2014. The Senate passed the substitute bill from the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on February 18, 2014. The House of Representatives first reading of the bill was on February 19, 2014. The bill was then referred to the House Judiciary Committee. This committee produced a substitute bill that was subsequently passed by the House. Once again in the Senate, the House substitute bill was further amended and adopted by the Senate on March 20, 2014. Because the House and Senate passed different versions of SB 350, a conference committee will need to be convened in order to draft a final bill, unless that was to happen, the bill is considered as failed to pass.

This project will provide analysis of the legislation as well as tracking the bill through the legislative process. Community stakeholders provide feedback on the proposed legislation. Also expressed are personal views on the bill including ethical dilemmas that social workers could face as a result of the legislation.
