About L-MILL

L-MILL is a group of faculty and students at Georgia State University interested in measurement issues in language, literacy, and beyond. L-MILL is organized by Lee Branum-Martin (lab located at 716 Urban Life Building, Georgia State University).

What we do:

We are interested in some broad questions:

What can data tell us about how we read and learn language?

What can we learn to improve research, teaching, and learning in language and literacy?

The details behind these questions lead us in many directions, which you can find described in the pages on this site.

Funded Research

Our members are also involved in funded projects. Whether these projects are current or completed, we often find new, fruitful questions to ask of existing data. Contact  Lee Branum-Martin to discuss project ideas.

Activities

L-MILL hosts occasional, informal discussions on measurement topics in psychology, education, and other areas of social science research. These discussions may focus on readings of articles or book chapters, to presentations of findings by our own members or guest researchers. We are dedicated to the critical and constructive examination of findings and methods. If you would like to receive emails about such events, please contact Lee Branum-Martin.

We highly recommend the research meetings hosted by the Center for Research on the Challenges of Acquiring Language and Literacy (L&L) as well as the Center for Research on Atypical Development and Learning. The L&L and CRADL each have a mailing list. Contact them to stay informed.

Graduate Students

Graduate students interested in projects in psychological or educational measurement can contact Lee Branum-Martin for details. We currently do not have funding for undergraduate students, but if you would like advice in pursuing research methods, contact us.
