Maria Peraltilla (she/her)

I am a post-baccalaureate psychology student. My interests in study are the acceptability of mental health treatment, especially in the Latinx community, and the different barriers many minority groups face with obtaining mental health treatment. I also am interested in psychological trauma, specifically involving immigrants and people of color. Overall, I want to give more representation and diversity in psychology research.

Heather Quirk (she/her)

I am a post-baccalaureate student taking additional psychology classes, volunteering in the Anxiety Research and Treatment lab, and planning to further my education in a clinical and community psychology PhD program. I have a B.A. in Public Relations and Marketing, as well as an MBA with a focus in Healthcare Management.

My research interests are in health psychology, religiosity/spirituality, and technology. My ultimate goal is to open a research and wellness center that researches and provides accessible, affordable psychological care for chronic illness patients and their caretakers.

Sarah Jamal (she/her)

I am a first-year Biology major at Georgia State University. My research interests include ways to overcome the perceived stigma surrounding psychological disorders, the effects of different treatment methods on people’s acceptability towards mental health treatment, and the biological aspects of psychological disorders. As a long-term goal, I hope to attend medical school after receiving my Bachelor’s degree with the objective of becoming a psychiatrist.

Sharva Dilip (he/him)

I am a first-year psychology major. Some of my research interests include working on ways to increase the acceptability of mental health treatment, exploring anxiety and how we can use technology to help treat it, and increasing engagement among participants in these studies.  Being part of the Anxiety Research and Treatment lab will help me develop a set of indispensable skills that I will incorporate into my day-to-day life. I plan on attending medical school after my undergraduate studies to pursue my goal of becoming an ophthalmologist.

Ryan Garland

I am a second-year Computer Science major. I am also in the dual degree program for a Masters of Science in Computer Science. My research interests and concentration is in databases and knowledge based systems, with a focus on health data management and analysis. I am currently working learning and implementing R language into my research and working on a data mining research project. I joined the Anxiety Research and Treatment Lab because I wanted to develop my research experience and work with people outside of my major to get a different perspective of data to understand or discover new approaches to using it.

Katie Basford (she/her)

I am a rising fourth-year Psychology major with a minor in English.  I am also a member of the Georgia Advocacy Office’s Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Advisory Council which assesses the quality of mental health institutions around the state of Georgia.  My research interests focus on the availability of quality mental health services outside of institutional settings.  After graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I plan to attend graduate school and hope to one day be a practicing clinical psychologist for children and adolescents.

Jennifer Perez (she/her)

I am a first-year student on the pre-nursing track. My interests include destigmatizing mental health treatments and better understanding anxiety/trauma surrounding clinical settings. Specifically, I am interested in understanding minority groups and their hesitancy towards seeking medical treatment. By volunteering in the Anxiety Research and Treatment Lab, I hope to better understand research methods and how technology can be used to create mental health treatments.
