Black Lives Matter –

We at the Anxiety Research and Treatment lab stand in full solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and other efforts around the country to stop violence against Black Americans. We demand justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Jacob Blake, Walter Wallace, Marvin Scott III, and countless other Black men and women who have been murdered by U.S. police. We recognize that white supremacist violence is an urgent public health problem and that overwhelming collective action will be necessary to dismantle systems of power that disproportionately inflict violence on Black Americans.

We recognize that we work within systems that perpetuate the structural racism that enables police brutality and health inequities.  We commit to interrogating both our personal biases and our participation in systems that perpetuate the status quo and to making changes that improve both.  We commit to conducting research that is relevant to Black Americans and to including the voices of Black Americans as both research participants and as researchers.  We commit to providing research training opportunities that will increase the number of Black Americans with advanced education in Psychology and related fields.
