Welcome

The Emerging Global Issues Forum on Forced Migration, Immigration, and Security will explore the causes, consequences and policy responses to the rapid increases in forced migration and refugee movements around the world. The forum will bring together thought leaders and academics with a diverse range of practitioners and policymakers. We will explore the driving factors of migration; policy and legal responses to the consequences of forced migration including civil and human rights ramifications; security implications like terrorism, crime and violence, economic costs and benefits, and the public perception and stigma revolving around displaced people.  We will examine the implications and responses for the Atlanta metropolitan area, as a microcosm of how these challenges play out in the U.S., and a locus of national and local debates. A closing working session will focus on identifying possible solutions for follow-up, and facilitating discussion.

The Forum will take place March 30, 2017 in Centennial Hall on the Atlanta campus of Georgia State University.
