Lindsey L. Cohen, PhD

Lindsey Cohen, PhD. Lindsey is a Professor, Director of Graduate Studies, and Director of the CHAMP Lab at GSU.Dr. Cohen is a Distinguished University Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at GSU. He also holds an appointment on the Professional Staff at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Dr. Cohen has been the director of the CHAMP Lab since 1998.

Dr. Cohen attended Middlebury College (’86-’90) before earning his MA (’95) and PhD (’98) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia. He completed his internship (’96-’97) at the Brown University Clinical Psychology Training Consortium. Dr. Cohen’s first academic post was as an Assistant Professor at Washington State University (’98-’00) and then an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University (’00-’04). Dr. Cohen returned to his hometown Atlanta and joined the faculty at GSU in 2004. He earned tenure and was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2007, to a Full Professor in 2012, and honored as a Distinguished University Professor in 2019. Dr. Cohen completed a sabbatical year at the University of Bath Centre for Pain Research in England (’08-’09) collaborating on research with Drs. Kevin Vowles and Chris Eccleston.

Dr. Cohen is an Atlanta native and in his free time he runs a small private practice and consulting firm (Cohen Psychological Services, LLC); spends time with his wife and 2 children; plays soccer for the Highlander and F.C. Coyotes teams; and mountain and road bikes in and around Atlanta.
