Blogs are a great way to communicate ideas that can normally be seen in an essay or research paper. Using links and media, make your writing more interactive and ready for the Internet.

Tips for Design and Writing

  • Make sure to use legible fonts and colors for your text. Bad font choice or choice of colors can make it difficult for your audience to read.
  • Insert links to articles used as references in your writing and/or things you’ve previously written for the site (allowing you to build on information from post to post).
  • Use appropriate images to draw your audience into your posts. You can find photos using the Creative Commons Media Resource List.
  • Embed video that you reference, especially if the source is online (Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo). This way your audience doesn’t have to leave your page.
  • Give a brief source link for images/video that you use. Include your permission to use them somewhere on your site.
  • Use Alt Text on your images to make your site more accessible for those using screen readers.
