Visual Poem

Visual Poems offer the opportunity to present a better understanding of a poem for the reader. Using imagery and audio effects you can give audiences a sense of the tone and better deliver the message of your poem.

Tips for filming and editing

  • When filming use a tripod for better shot stability.
  • Find video and photos that suit the tone and key imagery of the poem.
  • Make sure text is clear and easy to read. Pay attention to your font choice and color.
  • Use video effects and audio effects to make changes to a clip’s look and sound; and thus tone. If the poem mentions a bell ringing, try having a bell playing in the background.
  • Your voice-over should be clear and understandable. Make any other audio (music & sound effects) softer in volume.
  • Pay attention to the pacing and tone of your voice-over. For instance, a love poem may have a different (slower) pace from a war poem.
