Elisa Lam’s Thesis and Background

Cecil Hotel were Elisa died

Elisa Lam was a college student at the British of Columbia. She had a bipolar disorder and she was on medication. She had a blog where she would post about her depression. Elisa was very emotional on her blogs and posted frequently. She was explaining how she was going through depression and her life interests. Elisa decided to go on a tour. She went to San Diego for two days and then moved to Los Angeles. Elisa checked into the Cecil hotel and was put in a room with 5 other people. They thought she acted weird, so they reported her, and she got a room by herself. She became missing and after a few days, people in the hotel complained about the water taste and smell. She was found dead in a water tank face up with no clothes on February 19, 2013. There was elevator footage of Elisa doing some weird things before her death. It was very confusing as to what was going on at that moment. She was doing hand gestures and it looked like she was either having a conversation with herself or someone invisible.

l believe that Elisa Lam’s death was accidental because of her bipolar disorder and manic episodes she had in the past. This would explain why she was doing all the weird hand gestures and conversations with herself. If she was doing all this crazy stuff it is possible she could have accidentally killed herself and got in the tank. Some argue that there was no way she could have passed through the alarm but the Hotel she stayed at wasn’t up to date with a lot of things the hotel was not in good condition so it very much possible the alarm wasn’t working at the top of the hotel since not that many people went up there. The hotel was supposed to have the water tanks secured which supports the point that the hotel was not up to date with a lot of things. Elisa’s parents filed a lawsuit against the hotel for not having the tanks secured. (Rylan)

Lam’s parents, David and Yinna Lam, filed the lawuit in September 2013. Thomas Johnston, the Lams’ lawyer, argued that Elisa Lam suffered from mental illness and might still be alive if the water tanks locked.”They should have secured that water tank. This was an accident waiting to happen,” he said. (Rylan)
