The Days After

There are many things about the circumstance surrounding Brandon Lawson in the early morning of August 9th, 2013 that are unclear. Brandon left behind four children, a girlfriend of ten years, and extended family that is still looking for answers. Author Sherman Alexie wrote, in his book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, “When anybody, no matter how old they are, loses a parent, I think it hurts the same as if you were only five years old” (Alexie). The four children left behind following the event of August 9th, are likely to never see their father again. Brandon Lawson had a physical encounter with one or more persons that most likely resulted in his death. When listening to the police call Brandon mentions another car being present, indicating that multiple people were involved, whether they were immediately with him or not. Through out the phone call to the police, Brandon’s breathing was elevated, he was not trying to run from those that could help him such as family and police officers but responding to a threatening situation. Brandon’s actions before the 911 call did not speak to him intentionally abandoning his children and Ladessa, merely looking to seek family solace after an argument. Between the urgency and fear in Brandon’s call to the police and his actions prior to the phone call, the most probable outcome is that Brandon Lawson met with foul play.
